  • boat recomendations

Within a year I'd like to buy a new cc boat and so far I've decided I want a low side , about 20 ft or so but I want one that is a good mix between shallow runner and deeper water /rough conditions capable .
I need to be able to fish bass tournaments out of it too so any and all opinions on what boat / motor combo will be appreciated!

the boat you are looking for doesn't exist. You will find one that does one of the 3 things you are looking for and suck at the other two.

Any high side bay boat with a jack plate will work. Look at used boats like Kenner, Blue Wave, High bow tunnel hull clones, Whaler clones, etc
              Mako 18' looks good too.

Get a boarding ladder if you find a high side boat you like . It opens up more boat options for you . Besides , a ladder is nice to have .

I know that a perfect mix isn't out there but as long as it'll handle the bay generally well and lakes then I'll be happy. I just can't commit to a carpeted bass boat.
Thanks for all the input guys, I'll be doing plenty of research tomorrow.

Anybody have any experience with the e-tec motors yet?

You can fish your bass tournaments with most boats and a trolling motor. Your boat will look different than all the fancy Nitros and other bass boats that run 85mph all over the lake but you can catch just as many fish. Get what you want for saltwater and slap on a trolling motor and your good to go for your bass fishing. I promise the fish dont care what boat your in.

I'd suggest just the opposite. I'd look at a the Intracoastal model that Ranger makes. It's low sided, is just as good as any other ranger bass boat and would take a moderate chop in the bay just as it would take 2-3 footers in a lake.

You'll have to find a used one to stay in your budget though.

17 whaler. Floats in less then a foot, runs rough seas. Stick a trolling motor on the bow and it's deadly.
