That must have been his spot you were fishing. Probably fishes that same spot everyday and then you show up there today. How dare you!
I fished with a couple guides out of east Matty and they both would constantly ***** and moan about those dang weekend warriors and how could they fish that close or run that close and no sooner would that guide do the same dang thing...entitlement I tell you! LOL

It looks like he is showing his clients how to hold that croaker. Lol! After this past Sunday fishing the reefs in east I feel sorry for all you guides. Man, it's a circus out there....Originally posted by Texxan1 View PostYou guys know the guy in the boat is a guide right?

Yep Topp Dogg - what a bunch of yahoos. What kind of "Guide" potlicks others? oughta change the name to On Topp of You Guide Service."Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. I knew it was a guide when he dropped in on us. He had two guys and they were dragging bait (looked like croakers) with the drift....not casting, just dragging bait. I would normally lose it on anybody that is that stupid/inconsiderate, but to do so may have ruined a great day for a couple of guys who paid good money to spend a day on the water with a guide, catch some fish and just enjoy a nice day. If I had gone off on them, his customers may have thought that all fishermen were azzh.....s, and if the were as green as they looked, they will one day know that his (guide's) practice was past rude to almost dangerous. Oh yeah, also........I HAVE seen him on that reef before several times.....does that make it HIS REEF? If that's the case, I've been fishing the bay for almost fifty years (probably about 20 years longer than he has), so all of you who pull op on a reef with a pole sticking out of the water, THAT'S MY REEF....GET OFF IT!!!!! heeeeheeeee.Captain, Galveston County Blue Team Fish Killers

I made the mistake of shouting offensively to a neighboring boater in a similar situation to that described above. I think he was also a guide by the way he was helping the others in the boat with their rigging and baiting.
After I said something (yelled something?) he pulled his drift anchor and seemed to be leaving. But it soon became apparent that he knew the reef better than I did.
We were fishing the edge of Hannah's reef and the tide was outgoing leaving only about 2 - 3 feet of water under our keel. The fellow slowly motored out beyond the edge of the reef and then powered up and seemed to be leaving. But after he got about 100 yards away he shut the motor down and turned 180 degrees to his original direction of travel and proceeded to move his boat on a path that paralleled our drift.
He applied power to the boat just enough to generate the largest possible stern wake and held the boat at that high pitched angle until he was well ahead of us. At that point, he applied more power, nicely provided us with a Hawaiian salute and motored off. Good riddance, huh?
What I didn't realize until too late was that he had deliberately created a sizable wake that soon found itself on the reef where it became truly large. That wave and the smaller ones that followed created such rocking in my boat that all aboard (me, wife and 8 year old son) had to drop to our knees and hold onto the gunnel hand grips just to stay aboard.
The severe rocking seemed to take on a life of its own and last forever, but, I'm sure it was less than a minute. Still, it was quite unsettling and it scared the wits out of my boy.
Our boat has about 30 inches of freeboard. So, we weren't swamped. But I was sure glad we weren't in a vessel more skiff-like as we might have been easily swamped.
I've learned that confrontation with another boater on the water are best avoided. So, I applaud the OP of this thread in not engaging the other boater.
It's maddening, for sure, to be treated disrespectfully by others. But it's just not important enough to risk the confrontation only to find out that the other boater is MUCH less scrupled than you might be.

It is a circus out on the bays this day and age and alot of guides such as myself take a beating from others about us being guides etc etc.
I do my best to stay the hell away from everyone out there.. Good thing for me is that i dont fish all the "community spots " that most people fish and i certainly dont potlick anyone... Its annnoying as hell and I get potlicked all the damn time. I have learned to just let it roll of my back and try and teach my customers to not be THAT GUY!!!!!! Now if my customers want to scream and yell at them, that is up to them lol.
its tough being a good guide, as the other guides on this site know. Sometimes, it is not worth it, sometimes it is.
I refrain from blasting anyone, whether it is guides or weekend fisherman because it just isnt worth it anymore....
I have had other guides and fisherman that i know, potlick me when i was with customers in their boats.. Once they see me, they call me later and say " sorry bro, I wouldnt have done that if i knew that was you" which is a lame *** excuse.. You shoudl NEVER do it to anyone...
The more we work together with other fisherman, the more fish we will actually catch...

Good posts Longfisher and Thomas. I didn't go off on the two that pulled w/i casting distance of me 1.5 weeks ago-I did ask if they were "too close" and they said "No" which evidenced they were preeks and whatever I wanted to say to them meant absolutely nada. It aint worth getting shot or having some jakeleg, popdick azz cause an issue. Potlicking probably has been going on as long as there has been working ladies, so get used to it and remember, that POS potlicker likely gets paid back often, so don't get killed over some idiot. I don't think the offenders will ever change until they pass on to the big potlickin place in the sky. It never hurts to run through the fish when you're leaving the area and wave nicely and say "See Ya" while grinning ear to ear though.

Is there a 12 step potlicker program? I might need to attend if so.
I guess I might be guilty sometimes depending on the situation. If it is a "community" type spot like the jetties or the concrete ship or the hole going from cold pass to christmas or anywhere along the galveston ship channel in the flounder run, I don't see a problem of easing into the mix and being way closer than I'd ever get in open water. So, if getting within 100 feet of another boat at a "community" place is potlicking, then I've done it and don't see a problem with it.
However, if you are out in the bay drifting or even anchored up on a spot, then if you can read the TX numbers, you're too close is my opinion.
But, I'm new to all this and my opinion might not be worth the contents of a slop bucket.

Greg,
what you describe at jetties and the concrete ship is not potlicking as we see it.. Those spots are different types of fishing. We are talking about literally driving up to a boat 30ft a way and throwing anchor, cutting in front of or stuff like that.
There is a vast difference in knowingly potlicking and just not knowing it is something you shouldnt do.
I have guys come up to me all the time and cut me off, or pull right up and ask me.. Are you catching anything?. I try to explain courtesy to them and they just didnt know and apologize.. These are the guys that I will take time and tell them exacty how and where to catch the fish in that location.
The guys that do it, and wont look you strait in the eyes are the guys that know better.
we all know our gut tells us if were right or wrong.. So go with your gut and you will know.
The key word you said here is EASING....I have no issues with people easing in and keeping a fair distance... to me, if i can cast a lure inside your boat you are way to close...
Many a time ive wanted to sail a topwater at someone, but like i said before.. Its not worth the arguement or getting shot.
Alot of us carry our weapons on our boat these days, and if it was 20 years ago i would have done shot someone lol. I am much calmer these days lol
