Just got back from my kayak fishing trip to west bay yesterday and was able to bring back a few trout from the south shore but one thing is still bothering me.
I hooked into something about two hundred yards north of the Jamaica beach breakwater area that totally whooped me and my 30 lbs power pro line.
I was working a small paddle tail and this thing hit so hard so fast that I was making wake within seconds.
Once I got so close I could see the chartruese on my lure but still could not make out the fish.
At that point it turned out it had just been playing with me and kicked it into high gear taking me down to my backing and wearing my right arm out after about 15 minutes.
With the sun going down I decided it was do or die so I palmed the spool to try and turn the fish but that only fired it up. One more hard run and a shake , then it came off.
My guess is jack crevelle , slim and with a back that sort of matches the sandy green water over the weekend , maybe that's why I couldn't see it.. or it was a phantom submarine , maybe?
