  • SLP entrance

    Hi folks,
Just introduced myself on the new guy forum. Have a 21ft deck boat that isn't real good in shallow water. Got brave enough to try SLP last year and made it thru zig zag fine. Was looking fwd to fishing SLP this year but understand the pass entrance has changed. Tried it yesterday and got shallow on us so wasn't sure I was in right place for this year and turned around. We were at same entrance as last year, first few poles in the same spot as last year, but looked like 3rd or 4th pole had moved 100 ft or so east of where it was last year. Was trying to go thru with poles on my left when going from bay into the pass. Was about mid tide (0.5 ft msl) when tried, but depth was showing about 2ft and getting shallower. Does it sound like I was in the right place and just needed to deal with less than 2ft depth when at mid tide to get in...or maybe I was in wrong place? Thanks much for any help.

Old way doesn't work anymore unless Uber tide or shallow runner. New way is straight shot sorta -just hang closer to south shore from old entrance and wait for someone to run thru.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. The best way to find the channel is go out there on a sunny day when the water is clear. You'll be able to see the bars and lay down your own tracks.

Go very slow and just bump around.
Pass channels change all the time.

Calm day high tide. You'll be able to see the guts if you can get up on something elevated. As said previously. Just go through slow and take a GPS with you to mark your track. Then tada you have the gut. However it won't last long. One storm and it'll move.

            Best advice just go slow.

Made it into the pass yesterday by watching another boat and feeling way thru. Just typed in some waypoints lat/long from my track in case it helped anybody get in but looks like I took too long and got logged out and lost the text when I hit post. If anybody would like the waypoints let me know and I will try again. Anyway we fished the bridge area Thurs about 7pm and this morning about 830am. Live shrimp and plastics turned up only a mess of big ladyfish, a few sharks, and a few whiting. Had fun though, especially with the ladyfish. Thanks for the advice on how to get in.
