  • After a long day fishing...

Are there any decent shorelines or sandbars to take the family for a little R&R after a long day fishing. My kids are always wanting me to stop somewhere so they can get off the boat and do a little swimming. Preferably somewhere with a hard sandy bottom.

Before anyone says it...I know to stay far away from the Pass. I won't get in the water there, much less allow my kids to.

We typically fish the Bastrop and west end area.

HOW OLD ? THERE MIGHT BE SOME SHORELINE SHALLOW AREAS WEST OF TERRAMAR , BUT MOST AREAS ARE MUD , SHELL , OR COMBO WITH SHARP , SPIKEY THINGS I WOULD BE AFRAID OF STEPPING ON BAREFOOT . NOT TO MENTION STINGRAYS . SOME CAPTAIN OR A WEST BAY VETERAN MIGHT HELP OUT .

Behind Bird Island (NW side) or west side of Bird island on that flat that some boats think is deep but it aint or by the "tree" near the Pass-sorry-only places I can think of that aint mushy or shells is around San Luis pass. Some nice sharks though in the gut between Bird and Mud/Moody's.

They are older...10 & 12. Sometimes they aren't the most patient fishermen, I think that A.D.D. starts to kick in if we aren't catching.

We live in Terramar and always go to either side of the channel markers to swim, usually to the east side. It is 2-3 ft. deep and hard sand. Enjoy and shuffle your feet regardless.

            Thanks Explorer and Robalo.
Definitely yes on shuffling the feet. Wouldn't it be nice to have the sandbars and waters of Florida at times.

I see people swimming and floating right out front of sea isle all the time.

in front of sea isle is where we always raft up the boats and cool off. Usually no problems except for the occasional waverunner zipping around too close and fast.

I'll have to check sea isle out...is there usually a pretty decent crowd? Wouldn't mind meeting up with some fellow west enders.

We play in the area between the main Sea Isle channel and the pier. No so many jet skis there.
