Trolling motor prop pin

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a sheared off pin out of the slot. It's jammed in there and I don't want to bend the spindle using a hammer and center punch.

Heat it up and use the new pen to push the old one out or center punch.

If you heat it up, you will damage the shaft seal, try to drill it out.

When you figure it out come replace mine! This is a major PIA getting it out.

I had to use a dremel tool to drill mine out. Light taps with a hammer and punch wouldn't do it. I was afraid of hitting it hard and breaking something expensive.

Get a can of Blaster, spray it and then use a punch to tap it out. When you replace, coat the new pin with Anti Seize.

Had this happen in my Minn Kota and it worked like a charm.

First, lots of penetrating oil. Then back up the spindle with a block of wood before applying the hammer and center punch.
At least that would be my approach. Good luck!

If you have already tried tapping it out and it won't move, I think your going to have to drill it out.
Like S-troop said...Use an Anti-Seize on the new one.

Go with stroops way or use a center punch to make a dent. Use a small drill bit to make a hole in the middle. Use the next size bit, then the next size bit... This works taking bolts out of aircraft engines. Slow process, but works. Hope this helps. Lord Bless.

What did you hit?

It was probably a cluster of oysters, my boat didn't hit it only the prop and I was in some skinny water.

I was hesitant to use PB blaster because I've seen that melt a plastic cup before and I didn't want my seals to dissolve.

I'll get it figured out tomorrow when I get a chance to get back down to my storage facility, and let y'all know how the pin gets dislodged.

If your able to drill into the sheared pin you may try drilling part way into it and trying to use an easy-out to get it to spin. It may take some penetrating oil after you get the easy-out tight to loosen the pin up. If the pin spins you could pull it out or tap the easy-out and pin through.
