  • garcia ambassadeur 5500 question???

Hey guys had a quick question about my garcia. The level wind on it tends to stick to the left side when reeling in causing all my line to bundle up on one side. Have any of yall experienced this with this or a similar reel? Hopefully its something i can quickly fix because its getting a pain to use my finger to keep it going every time. Thanks for the advice guys!!!!

    garcia ambassadeur 5500 question???

It's either the pawl or worm gear or both.
You might try removing the pawl ( large screw cover on the back of the level wind) and seeing if there's excessive wear on the pawls tip that would keep it from tracking in the worm gear correctly.
These are both easily replaceable parts. FTU or serious tackle in Lamarque should be able to fix you right up.
    Shut up and FISH!!

They originaly came with an extra pawl in the little plastic tube of spare parts when new, due to the fact that it was a part that frequently wore out. Been a while since I bought a new 5500 so I doubt if they still do that. The longer you use the worn out pawl the more damage you will do to the worm gear and then both will need to be replaced.

I'd replace both pawl and worm gear. Peace of mind for the cost.

At first I was fishing with 5500C3. I had to tear it apart every 2 times that I went. Check the worm gear and prawl for corrosion. If its not to corroded, a light sandpaper might work. Oil it and the worm gear. Use a corrosion lubricant on the worm. I use 3-in 1 oil. Used the reel for years. I bought the diawa coastal baitcast. I clean it either once or twice a year. I also have a shimano DSV. Both are good, but the diawa is easier to tear apart, clean, and cheaper. Both cast about the same distance, and both catch fish. I run the reel and rod under running water. Let it dry and oil the worm. if both worm and prawl are to corroded, definitely change them. Hope this helps. Hope this helps. Lord Bless.
