Piper our 13 year old family dog has been sick for a couple of weeks and the Vet finally said she has cancer in her liver. She has lost a lot of weight and has problems walking but her mind is still there and she still want to go. She loved it up at our place in the woods so this past weekend we got her up there for what might be her last trip. If she is still around we plan on taking her again in weekend after next, but we aren't holding our breath. She hasn't been eating but she ate and ate good while we were up there and seemed to be happy. I know she would have been more happier if she could have run with the young dogs. Here are a few pictures we took of her. She is laying on the rig my wife made up so we can help her walk, and she is trying to help the young dogs get the mice that live under our shed, a game they have spent hours doing over the years. The next is her going to check the feeders with the rest of us. She seemed to enjoy riding around in the back of my buggy.

Man, my heart if breaking for y'all. There's nothing like a special pet. People that don't have them don't understand that they're truly members of the family. Pretty touching that your wife made that rig to help her walk too. Take lots of pics in the coming days bro. It's good to remember those special ones. From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

Like Sandy said, "Member of the family", heck. I like my Lab better than a lot of people
I know. Family member they are without question.
Thats sad about the clear mind and broken body.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBLbrJxGtro
Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

Enjoy your time with her. i had to put down my 16 yrs old "mutt" this time last year during the Ike evacuation. Lurefisher was with me and yes I shed a tear. I miss that dog was the best one I ever had. I buried him by my favorite deer stand on the callaghan ranch. Hogs got to him later but covered him up again. Remember God protects dogs and fools!!! Congrats on your anniversary!!Originally posted by bountyhunter View PostPiper our 13 year old family dog has been sick for a couple of weeks and the Vet finally said she has cancer in her liver. Derek,
You are killing me! We have a 15 year old and she does not have cancer, but she is struggling to get up and move these days, but her mind is still sharp and loves to be at the bay house. All I can say is enjoy the time with her. Please do not try and treat the cancer, she is an older dog and it will not cure her. Some vets will do their best to talk you into it, but the chemo is a bandaid, not a cure. I went thru this with Donna's cat and it was not pretty. Spend time with her and take her for rides on your bday gift as much as you can. Sorry to hear about this and all I can say is stay strong!
BTW, Piper looks like our Starr that is the 15 year old!

Thanks folks, she has been eating pretty good this week. The trip to the woods seems to have done her good, so we are planning a return trip next weekend. Hope she hangs in there so she can go back one more time.Pro Staff - Bounty Hunter Turbo Buzz, Creme Lures, New Pro Products, & K9 Fishing Fluorocarbon
