  • East Bay Gar

We were wading a shoreline in East Galv on Friday, and slayed this beast! Fought him for about 30 minutes, before we were able to slip a rope around him. Crazy!

    Ya frying gar balls?
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Makes a nice brown streak in the water with the big splash when you surprise them.

I am about 90% sure I hooked into a gar yesterday morning while wading the barren Seabrook flats. One or several gars were working huge pods of mullet. We keep seeing the tails as they came up for a breath.

I felt a thump and set a the hook into a "log" of a fish. I could turn it. I couldn't stop it. Eventually, I was able to get my line back.

So what did you do with it???

It takes about 20yrs for them to grow to that size.

My wife caught one about that size last Independence Day off the old ICW behind surf side. After about 30 seconds I could see it was a gar, and I wanted to just cut it off, but she wanted to land it, so we did!

6 footer. Took about 45 minutes on my old Allstar. She loves that fish story.

We were actually fishing for "river monsters" (and drinking beer) and caught this 48 lb gar. Not as big as we were looking for so the quest continues.Click image for larger version

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

I had a big one like that wack the side of my Kayak when I must have run up on it. I guess we both were as surprised as the other.
