i had a 12 valve dodge (97 I think) ran great until i tuned and tweaked it. Pulled strong and at one point out ran GT mustang of the show room floor lol. I have a buddy that pulls an 8 bail trailer and long cattle trailer with his old 12 valve still. Lives in New Waverly and pulls to Sealy all the time. He is constantly working on it. I also know guys that have the old Powerstroke and its a daily driver no major issues. Pre 6.0 (2000 I think)

OK, get a Gremlin instead of a Pinto. Chick magnets I'm telling ya-and dang reliable-or get a Hyundai-they come standard with a rear window defroster, so your hands stay warm in the winter while pushing it down the street.

Contrary to popular belief, there are a few kids, like us, that land a good enough job right out of high school to buy what we want/need. If the boy is working and paying for it, why shouldn't he be allowed to get one. I do agree that rolling coal isn't cool, it's just a nature of the beast, although it shows that the engine is lacking air in the combustion process. I also think it's dumb when parents buy their kids all the fancy, jacked up trucks and the kids don't do anything to deserve it. But what is complaining about it gonna do? Not a darn thing. If parents wanna be ignorant, well by golly they'll be ignorant. Just my worthless .02!Originally posted by Potlicker12 View PostIf you're looking at any diesel engine besides a 7.3 power stroke that is over 100,000 miles you're asking for repairs. Women date guys that drive gas engine trucks too. Cowboys drive trucks that run on gas too. Only person who thinks that back smoke you're blowing is cool is you, everyone else thinks you're gay. Buy something that'll last and won't break your dads wallet when you go ask for gas money. And yes I drive a diesel currently. It's my veterinary truck, came with the job. It's a 2010 ford. If I had to pay for the fuel that goes into it, I'd have already thrown that chit to the curb.

How heavy of equipment? The duramaxs we have at work handle a 12k lb trailer like a dream.Originally posted by Red killer View PostFirst off I'm paying for this I'm a welder on the Texas pipeline and it has nothing to do with blowing smoke and looking cool l haul boats and equipment all the time and am just looking for a diesel but thanks for your 2 cents that didn't help at all

Did they fix the water pumps? I know a guy that had a cummins not too old that went through I wanna say 6 of em, before it blew tranny and messed it up so bad he just got rid of it. In dodges defense, I do think it was a lemon.Originally posted by Ibtsoom View PostDodge fixed the cracking dash issue quite a while back.

If you don't mind big holes in your dash buy a dodge otherwise find a duramax.

My dad had a single cab 1991 dodge cummins 12 valve with 300,000 on it. I am trying to buy it from him but wants 10000 for it. I think he it's crazy but I bet it's worth it.

Get a '74 Pinto and the chicks will be crawling all over you. With that Pinto, you can then buy a 82 Chevy C10 and still have $ to take your date to the drive-in movie (but don't expect to buy any Milk Duds).

200k on a diesel is just breaking in the motor , if you get a cummins put a peirce tranny in it and you will have a truck for 20 years , if not go with duramax that has the Allison tranny in it got one with 240k on it and have 0 problems , power strokes lately seem to have way to many electrical problems , best bet find a dodge 1998 or older before they put computers in them , cheapest repairs call my uncle mike over at hot rod diesels in Hitchcock he will answer any questions you have
