  • Trolling West Galveston Bay

    Hi Guys,

I have only trolled off shore. I want to give trolling a try on West Bay. Can I get some advice from a brother, such as what baits, lures, where, and so on. I can't pay you, but I can certainly pray for you, and that is free to the glory of God. Thanks!

I'm not sure about trolling the bay, but we have tried big bomber style crank baits for reds in the intracoastal. Haven't really done it much though!

I have a friend that all he does is troll blue & chrome rat-L-traps in out the causeway and has caught some really nice trout! Defintly should try it out!

Ya we normally troll every weekend from May-August. A lot of these bozos don't know that it's the best way to pick up fish during the heat of the summer. Our best areas have been the causeway, north/south deer, greens, and the mouth of offats. Ratl traps are good, but don't forget the deep running rapala crank baits. Bright or natural colors seems to work best. Be sure to keep your speeds fairly low. It's better with a crew, and make sure it's coed. The trout seem to like texas country music the best, and normally the fishing really gets good after your third six pack...but it may not be the trout you're pulling in anymore.

Come on fellas - that was mild compared to his normal stuff..

As to the trolling - never tried it here but I don't see why it wouldn't work during certain times of the year.. We use to do it in fresh water a lot when I was a kid to locate white bass.

Every once in a while when I am paddling my plastic boat, I throw out a line and troll a lure. I even catch something now and again. Goes against my nature though. Too much happenstance. When I catch fish, I like to convince myself I found em and tricked em into the boat. Sounds more manly that way.
