  • Optima Battery life ??

My Blue Top Starter is now 3 years old. Still works great, but any ideas on how long they last?
Sure don't want to get stranded.
    TIA

It should have a rateing in months, probably has a lot left in it,Maybe run it through this season and get your new one January or roll it over to another job! Batterys are funny things and will let you down from time to time,Eagle Battery in Alvin is a great place to get new ones at fair prices!Maintenance and proper charging will highly affect the length of service you get out of your battery!

I have had them last one year and a few up to seven years... Seems to be a hit or miss with my luck!

        Thanks..
I sent an email to Optima and they suggested I go to a local store and have them run a test. It would give me an indication
        on it's Health.

I have two 5 year old blue tops used for a trolling motor and they are still going strong. I added one for a starter battery last year and expect it to do as well.

When continental bought them out 4 years ago, they reduced lead plates and have never been good as they used to be. I have customers with bad batteries after 4-5 months when using for trolling motors. They just don't last like try used to

I've had one last only 7 months...and others are still going strong after 4 yrs.

It's best to have a spare on board. I try not to leave the dock with only one battery or only one propeller. Murphy's law.
