  • I need a pole on a potential new product

Hey guys, I have recently bean offered an opportunity to be a supplier of molded fiberglass seats for an airboat manufacturer and because I already have the tooling and experience to produce these molded products, I would like some feedback on other items I am considering. A) I have tossed around the idea of a universal replacement console for 17' and onward bay boats. If any of you guys are like me, You want a console that you can stand on and has room for decent electronics and stowage. If I invested in designing and producing such a console, would it be something people would show interest too? Rough numbers Im thinking $600 - $1000 depending on options. Any suggestions on other products appreciated!

If possible id make a prototype or two and post it up to see if it garners interest. I'm almost certain that youd do well with it.

Any sketches of pictures? What is the difference from just raising the console? Maybe some sketches would help me visualize it. Sounds like a good idea, price range looks great to me!

If you could stand on it comfortably, it would be a winner.

I have a buddy with a side console 17' Montauk he wants to put a center console on-some pics of what you are building along with dimensions would be great.

          I like your idea.

and if you could make it aero dynamic for trailering that would great.

Theres a good few on the market already... if you can research them and improve something that would be good. Standing on it is a good improvement.

I'm sure there is a market for that since quite a few boats get remodeled on a regular basis very various reasons.Go for it.

Sorry I don't have any official sketches yet. An issue crossed my mind however, many decks are domed ever so slightly to help water drainage, this would mean a molded console with a flat base would be useless, were working on a solution to that. Also, after a little more review, it may be a better move to build molded leaning posts for several reasons. a) I think there are loads of people out there sitting on factory provided coolers that wish they had something real. b) no throttle, shift, steering, and electrical to rig for the everyday guy. Weve also tossed around the idea of a nice, high quality cooler. Imagine a YETI, but fiberglass and gelcoat, diamond pattern nonskid top, stainless grab handles, available in colors like grady white beige, kenner gray, etc.

I don't think the rounded deck would cause you too much trouble... you could make the front have a little round (concave) to account for the multitude of decks... and if its off a little most people are going to silicone them in after fasteners. There is certainly a need for a rounded / bubble style replacement ...there is not a generic bubble console on the market to date that i know of.

molded leaning post... there's a few out there that are expensive that come with lure box holders... if you could make a cool one like that could either be upholstered or accomodate racing seats without aluminum work and have the option for bait boxes storage units ...that would have some potential.

I like the idea of the diamond plate ice chest... frigid rigid style. I'm sure theres room in the market for one more people certainly seem willing to throw done the cash or a good ice chest.

Its kinda of like an answer to a question that has not been asked yet. Can you glass an adapter for a trolling motor that will match my boat?
