I used to be a Penn only person. Made in the USA! Then they stopped making them here.
Now I say you can't go wrong with Shimano. As for me, I buy cheap ones. I've never paid more than $40 for a rod, nor over $80 for a reel. I've got so many, I don't know what to do with all of them.

stradic,saros, and symetre (all shimano) and all good reels. If your lucky some stores still have the old model saros so they are pretty discounted. New saros is a pretty sweet reel though. All of these reels are tough to go wrong withTeam Rolling ThunderComment
