    Boat LiftTroubleshooting Over Spring Break

It'shard to believe Spring Break is just around the corner, this year isreally going by fast! I hope all have a blessed & fun vacation. If you're using your lifting equipment for the 1st timethis year you might run into issues. Hopefully this isn't the casebut if it is here are a few troubleshooting tips to help get you onthe water:

    The Lift Will Not Run
    • Check to make sure the breaker is not blown to the lift.
    • Make sure the lift it plugged in.
    • Check the GFCI to ensure the light is glowing, if it's not, replace the GFCI. Now I CAN NOT RECOMMEND this at all nor do I suggest anyone to do this, but I've heard of people going around the GFCI in the above mentioned situation to get this to work. Again I do not recommend this as it can & will cause serious injury or death through electrocution.
    • Check the electrical flow before the switch & after, if there is an interruption then you have a switch problem. If you get good flow through the switch then you have a motor issue.
    • Unplug the electrical cord from the outlet & open up the switch. Look for ants or any loose wire, clean accordingly.

The Lift Makes A Loud ScreamingNoise During Operation
    • Grease the grease inserts on the lift. Your should have 3 inserts on the gear assembly & grease inserts on the pipe supports.
    • If after you grease the noise persists, your lift is out of alignment as the pipe is coming in “crooked” into the gear. Put a level on the pipe & adjust accordingly.

Cables Are Making A Loud PoppingNoise
    • Do not use the lift, replace cable ASAP.
    • Inspect the cables & look for any strands that have been broken, replace cables if you see any issues.
    • Cables should be replaced every 2-3 years, if you're outside those recommendations replace your cable.

    Drive Belt Keeps Slipping
    • If the drive belt is slipping tighten the motor up by loosening up the four bolts & sliding the motor over to create more tension. Ideally you'll want at most a 1/2” of play on the drive belt.
    • If you have tightened the motor & the belt continues to slip, you're lift is out of square causing the drive plate to concave, square up the lift to eliminate this problem.

Most of these troubleshooting issuesare common & can be fixed fairly quickly. If you continue tohave issues call us at the office Monday – Friday so that we canassist. If it's during weekend hours contact me via email with yourinformation & you will receive a phone call as soon as possible. Have a great Spring Break everyone!
