  • West Bay Game Warden

I actually got checked last week in West Bay by a game warden. First time ever! I was drifting upper bay shell and this Whaler/Tran? comes WOT by and turns at me from the side. I thought it was a buddy and was rearing back with cast at him with a Fat Boy. Turned out to be a black warden, a pretty nice guy that asked how the fishing was and checked for a life jacket. We BS'd for a few minutes and he was off toward Offats.

That would be the first one I've seen there in 5 years...maybe longer! Was he lost?

He was out there checking on the oyster boats. Guess he decided to hit a few fishermen while out there. That's really the only time I get checked, when I'm drift fishing near the oyster boats.

Might be making a presence before spring break coming up... that'd be a good thing actually if the word get's out... it's gonna be a mad house out there.

I've seen that same guy a few times recently, both on the water and at the gas station filling up his truck. Never been checked though. Used to never see them around. Actually, last 4th of July, the were coming around the canal checking boats as they were heading out for life jackets. Also saw Jamaica beach pd on their boat and the coast guard too. That was a rarity. Only other times I've seen the USCG was in the port. Well besides their helos that always fly over. Those aircrews are pretty cool guys though, talked to a few at Ellington once cuz I'm interested in doing that after college.

I got checked my The Department of Homeland Security coming back from offshore last year. They had a 40ft boat with 4 350hp and the seats were air-cushion. And the officer said that no one can outrun them in the ocean.

I have spoken with him a few times. Always at the launch at Harborwalk. Really nice guy.

I've seen the game warden pulling out of Harbor Walk a few times while running the ditch.

If its the same one that I saw at the lagoon, his name is AJ. Very nice gentleman. A co-worker's brother was caught with undersized fish. Very stiff penalty. If you're doing everything right, u have nothing to worry about. If not, sooner or later it will catch up with u as it did with him. Lord Bless.

I wish they would show up more often in that bay.

Clark and I got checked about three years ago behind the pass. I have no problems with them. We're always legal eagle and maybe after they popped a few of these idiots out there, less would show up. One can only hope right?
