  • San Luis Pass Bridge Fishing

Does anyone know the best way to catch a lot of fish out at the San Luis Pass bridge? I went out there yesterday around 3pm and parked right next to the bridge on the galveston side and cast out some live shrimp and some blue crap pieces. We were fishing on the bottom. Didnt catch a single thing and ended up leaving by 5:30. I've heard a lot of big black drum being caught over there but didn't see anyone catch anything.

I would say your biggest problem is with your choice of bait. Live shrimp is good, but the other . . . . . LOL!

HAHAHA!!! Maybe if theyre not biting on live you could try dead shrimp freelined close to the supports/pilings for sheepshead. Sorry I can't offer much advice here!

How does it turn blue anyways? Did you get "plowed" by a smurf?

This is why they suggested you change bait. LOL!

Pass is overrated. Allways has been. Go east.

Re: San Luis Pass Bridge Fishing

Catch the tide moving and don't fish the piles, move out in front on the beach side to where it turns back east and park and cast out there. Half or quarter the crab and put a spider sinker big enough to cast out yet big enough to hold its spot in the current. Standing on the beach cast back to the Southwest some as there is a drop there.
Its all about timing the tide at the pass. I prefer the incoming this time of year, but in or out you'll have a better shot with moving. Reds like that crab too!
Other than that...I wait till April thru August, and catch the trout behind there...last year was pretty dead with all the SW wind we had, but there were a few, and again...tide is the ticket, and you won't need bait, but if you do...live shrimp fished along drops behind there are deadly.
                    Don't be a Nancy!
If it smells like fish....you know I've been there!

if your just lookin to entertain the kidos or just wantin to feel a tug...... go around back to the bayside of the pass(if you can get to it). Theres a nice little gut there or if you got some waders walk out n fish the edge of bird island. or if your a trooper take "the long walk" out to the boat cut. never took that walk this early n the year. The last two years i caught my PB snaggle tooth freckle fish in the surf where flat out fishn was describing this time of the year.
if i dnt catch dinner, i will catch a buzz. it works out!

Some typos lend themselves to excellent humor. This one was most fortuitous.
