  • Got a new reel...REVO STX

I lost my favorite Penn spinning rod & reel this past Saturday. We were fishing and I was free lining shrimp. My wife had a problem with her chronarc(backlash), so I sat my rig down for a minute to help her. Well, you know what happened next...something hit my line and "splash" it went in the water. Thus the need for a new rig.

I just got back from Bass Pro Shops, where I picked up a new Abu Garcia Revo STX (RVO3STX-HS) 7.1:1

If any of you have tips or special tricks you use to make this reel work better for you, please share them with me. I'll probably put it to the test this Sunday.

I plan to stop at Academy on the way home today and pick up a rod for it. Any suggestions??? I've noticed some of the new rods have very small eyes all the way from the reel to the tip. What's that all about???

Anyway, just thought I'd share. Happy Fishing!

I have AllStars made before and after the Shakespeare transition. I like theme equally. If something is different it is not noticeable to me. I like the shrimp tail specials.

I think you are referring to rods with micro guides. Supposedly, they reduce line friction and air resistance in order to cast farther. I've never thrown one before, but I fished someone who looked like he could throw 30+ yds farther than anything I could ever do.

Okay, I didn't go to Academy yesterday, so I went to FTU this morning. I picked up a nice TFO Saltwater Casting rod.

I'll marry the rod and reel tonight and consumate their union tomorrow.

if u wanna spend some money academy has the white garcia rods that would look good about a hundred. but those small eyes are micro eyes and they limit the movement of the line and allows it to flow through straight rather than spinning in circle which should produce further and more effecient casts

That's a great reel! I'm somewhat of a Shimano guy but the Daiwa is a close second. The magnets in their casting systems are killer. So I will have to say good choice!!

I've never fished with the micro-eyes but they look like you'd need a magnifying glass to get the line through them

Hey Dennis, Ive used the Revo reel till it was submerged during Ike! It is a pretty good alternative to Curado, with the Curado edging it out for dependability,IMO!Taken good care of and it should last! Gus,that white Veritas is nice, but its stiff as all get out.It puts me off for that reason.I have the Med Falcon Coastal along with God knows how many others, but the action is right for me in that rod!I think I would recomend it to someone at that price range!!

We went out this past Saturday, but the wind was stiff and the fishing was soft...Maybe this weekend will be better.
