  • red tide or sonething else? bayou vista

Got home from work after being on duty all weekend and noticed the water had an unusual color to it.

Went down to look closer and noticed a smell but my eyes weren't burning and my nose wasn't stinging so I wasn't too concerned.

There's a visible stringy brownish/reddish algae in the water. This morning I didn't see any dead fish.

Went back down a minute ago and there are mature mullet and hundreds of blennys dead, although glass minnows are alive on top.

The blue crabs and stone crabs are all clinging to the bulkhead trying to stay out of the water.

Anyone heard, seen, or reported anything in West Bay?

    Thanks
    Shawn

I'm on sailfish. Just went out and counted about 25 full sized blue crabs floating by, and a few large mullet.
It may not be red tide but definitely something.

I think I figgered it out. All these kids go back to school and take two showers a day and flush the toity a real lot. All them pipes run into the bayous, which sometimes even look sudsy from the hundreds of gallons a day of shampoo they use. Happens every year about this time. Usually gets better after the regular high school football season is over. If I was a flounder or a bluecrab I'd be bookin' it too!
