Was considering building a couple rods to help pass the time on my "nothing else to do days". I could research prices and particulars but was wondering if anyone could assist me with general cost of materials for a 7' light to medium action, cork handle with the regular eyes and tip. Thanks.

I can't help as I've never done it, but I got a few you can practice some warps on...even have a spool of light blue thread you can use.Originally posted by H.Maier View PostWas considering building a couple rods to help pass the time on my "nothing else to do days". Patience is the key. Eyes are not bad to put on, mark where you them, just the wraps have to be perfect (practice).Never put on a handle, doesn't look like it would be that hard. A little epoxy, again line the trigger up with the guides...eyes cost as much as you want to spend - $20 each. Blanks??? Up to 50. Just guessing.

Good deal, FTU puts on classes all the time...actually considered doing it myself. You'd probably be good at it too...I here Democrats are the artsy fartsy type! I kid...I kid!!!!Originally posted by H.Maier View PostThanks Monte. After further consideration I may have to enroll in a class as this may be a little more involved than I anticipated.Don't be a Nancy!

I'm new to the process but here is my take on it....The price depends on the components and you can get some good deals if you shop around. Call the shops and see if the have any discontinued blanks to get started with or a kit. You can watch the videos on YouTube to get a good idea of where to begin with building. The Mudhole videos are really good and FTU has some on replacing guides. Terry and Allen are a big help in picking out your components and Shawn at ShoalPatrol can help you as well with pricing. I'm currently building on FTU blanks and grips matched with Fuji guides and reel seat. The Shriners rod is an IM6 blank and around $95 without the thread, epoxy, decals, and glue. I need a tax ID to save some money as this is getting really addicting! LOL
Hope this helps and if I can assist in answering any questions, shoot me a PM.

LOL. You need to slow down making all that big oil money and give me a fishing report, my brother.Originally posted by FlatoutFishin View PostGood deal, FTU puts on classes all the time...actually considered doing it myself. On nights for 6...one day off Thursday and then one day off the next Monday...gotta get while you can! tuesday, while I was trying to surf at the Flagship, seen a guy catch a 25" around the pilings. East Maty has been looking pretty good lately...got over that way Thursday for some fun with the reds, but then the Isaac wrap arounds kicked in and 25 - 30s kinda shut us down.Originally posted by H.Maier View PostLOL. So true, Brother Bruce. Last time I checked Webster's " liberal" meant open-minded, ability to see the big picture. I guess it's the reason I understand and appreciate things as they are and how if it all, they can be better without defamation or damning those who act or think different than myself. I love arts and music, especially the liberal ones. Now back to fishing, caught a couple nice flatties in Lake Madeline against the shoreline off Bayou Shore Drive on a pumpkin/white Hogie slim-jim in 3' water on 4 cast. Gave them to the old yard man mowing and trimming trees next door. He thanked me and I felt good.Originally posted by Curmudgeon View PostHe's right Harvey. That's why they call it "Liberal Arts"!
