  • Fishing Lights- Question

I just posted this under the lights foum but I thought this woudl get more hits under our main forum.

My big 2500W bit the dust. The housing and brackets are all rusty so I am taking advantage of the situation and gonna get a new light or lights. I prefer the over head lights that shine onto the water instead of the underwater green lights. I feel the fish come back faster to the overhead lights than the underwater green lights but I just that is just a personal preference. Sooo, my buddy works for a lighting company and he has several different options LED or High Density.

I can go low density (LED) that spread light over more water or high density that focuses more light into smaller range but drives light into the water.

I know the key is to attract bait so which style is better,a larger lighted surface area or a strong beam of focused light - your advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Cool, ok the way I am set up I could install 3 high focused lights around my deck and not spread too much light on my neighbors which I am sensitive about.

    More advice welecomed guys

Seems like before the hurricane, the guys with lighted docks had high intensity light bulbs with a 2-foot parabolic reflector to concentrate the beam. Very old school. These were rather large replaceable bulbs, a lot of watts. Very hot and they attracted a lot of bugs. Most of these old units died in the storm - if you could even find what was left of your dock. Since the hurricane a lot of guys went back in with small sealed-beam halogen units and no reflector, narrow beam, high efficiency, the square ones. Much cooler, not as many bugs!

I have been happy with the 1000w VNS (Very Narrow Spot) stage lights. They do put out a lot of heat if that matters to you.
I have mine mounted separately on tripods but, I don't leave mine out all the time.
i rigged up my own reflectors out of 10" air conditioning duct. (actually and "8 to 10" reducer)
