Wanted to know what y'all think of the following occurence:

Most of y'all will recognize the area in the photo:

The small tan boat was fishing the shoreline and dropoffs in the area, had just come around the point, kinda drifting with the wind, but using the trolling motor to maintain position out from the bank. In the position of the tan rectangle in the photo, the small boat guy hung up a lure in the rocks on the bottom, was trying to get it loose.

This Big boat comes motoring in to the postion of the big white rectangle in the photo. Google Earth showed this to be 120 feet in front of the smaller boat. Pulls right up in there, starts fishing, uses trolling motor to continue along the bank.

I just kept going along the bank, we ended up essentially casting into the same damn spots. After about 10 minutes, he cranks up and motors out of there.

I know this is a popular area, so is this just to be expected? Or is there any manners in play here?

Potlicking goes by many names and has various forms. Lack of etiquette is a nice way of stating it.

Thanks guys. When this happened, my first thought was "son of a bidge!" But then I thought maybe the area is so popular that having people move in on you is just part of the game. Then I was going to just move out of the area and leave them to it. Then I thought, "Hell no, just keep moving down the rockline and cast right on up in there with'em".

Another question... if my boat had been a 22 footer with a 150 merc, you reckon those guys would have moved in on me anyway? Does my little boat just beg to be bullied? Part of me was thinking, "don't piss them off, they could swamp my boat if they wanted to."

You could have been piloting the QE2 and some dip s*** would cut you off. As 45ACP says, it's just part of the deal. You can get mad about it or not. That's your choice.

One of the challenges of fishing from a kayak or a little boat is that you have limited overall range. It hurts you when you fish within a mile either side of a busy launch like the 2004 bridge over Chocolate Bayou (where there are no fish by the way). You just can't get away from the people.

The little boat can be an advantage if you fish in places where most boats or waders can't reach. As the year progresses, those reds will be back in the marshes - too shallow to reach with most boats and bottom too muddy to wade in from the shoreline.

Small boat = hit 'em where they ain't

Jerkyourcroaker, Thanks for those words of wisdom. I'll just resign myself to the fact that this is going to happen, and not let it ruin my day. Heck, ain't no fish in there anway.

Well, I did get a photo of them, and the boat did have a name on the transon, but with me being new here, didn't want to make any rash actions like posting the photo. Figured it would be best to get some other opinions first. I surely don't want to pizz off any WestEnders!

They coulda thought your boat was staying put or you were working the spot closest to you and they pulled into the area not knowing you were trolling that way???????????? I know I've done that before-actually did that Sunday around 1 pm at Kenny's Reef-the other boat was trolling the water break/reef break and I went west and then north of him-he trolled towards me some but we never were closer than 100+ yards from each other.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

                      Robalo, was that you?!! LMAO!

What you mention is sort of why I held off on judgment. I was hung up, trying to get my lure loose from the rocks in the bottom, maybe they assumed I wasn't fishing? For me, I would never get within 120 feet of where someone else was fishing. Geez, there is a huge bay out there, and plenty of spots as good or better than where I was at.
