I am basically a shimano man and have fished the baitcasters for many years. My favorite was the bantam from back in the 80's as I prefer to palm the reel. Can't remember the model# but it was my favorite and lost it during Ike when I left in a hurry and didn't take it with me. I guess people can say I'm cheap on gear but I generally pay around $100.00 for a reel and fish them hard. I'm not really into pimping equipment but I've been fishing the cheaper model(around $85.00) Lews speed spool on a 6'8" falcon rod with good results. My fishing partner and I were fishing the surf at the end of the seawall a couple weeks ago early morning when I hooked something(probably a jack) that headed straight out for the oil rigs. As I watched my line spool off to the last few wraps without ever turning the fish The line went limp and I was glad the fish got off. Reeled up and still had all my rigging so within the next three or four cast belly hooked a 24" spanish mackeral and after that little battle and release decided this little rig past the test.

So yer sayin you like the Lews reel and will stay with that combo for your go to rig? Sounds like a good deal to me as I tend to shy away from uber expensive reels,I also use a Falcon Coastal xg med for trout and it works well , I had a few of the Mettles upgraded by Fisher Angling and they perform well! with upgrades under a hundred bones.Ill have to give the Lews stuff a try, Ive had them before back in the good old days!LOL!West Bay Sensai...
