  • Wade Fishing Musts

You wanna be a predator, sleek and quiet, but as you step out of the boat quietly into the water you look down and go through your checklist of must items.

What would your checklist look like ( and rememer if its not on your checklist its not with you when you are 200 yards down the shoreline) ?

X2. I have a simple belt with pliers and a stringer sheath and a single shoulder box with spooks and plastics/ jig heads etc.. No net, no pockets full of crap (although I do carry one or two glasses cleaning wipes thanks to curmudgeon). Less is more in my opinion.

Less is more. Boga, rod, pliers, over the shoulder box with a few spooks, 1 pack of soft plastics w 1/8oz. jig heads in pockets. It's better to pack lighter and devote your energy and attention to the signals around you than pack heavier and worry about which lure you should be pulling out. 99/100 you'd do better if youd use the time you spent looking for that next lure to throw 7 or 8 casts with the one you already had on to a place with some bait activity.
I set my hook like I am fishing for tuna even if I am fishing for trout. Call me tuna Joe!

I carried a net for a while but it was no challenge... The big ones have a fighting chance if you hand or boga them... I haven't missed many handing them..

I carry way too much crap (ask ibtsoom), but I find that if I don't bring it along it will wind up being the item I need. I have a nice wide Shimano belt that I love and I carry a shoulder box (topwaters, corkies & touts) that I made. I used to carry a net, but I picked up a boga recently. I'm afraid I need a a little more practice on my technique (ask ibtsoom & pho cowboy), but having seen enough of my stringers torn up by sharks I like to have a little something between me and the fish. A decent hat is a must.
I've added and eliminated a few items here and there. Keep wading and you'll find what you do and don't need.

I like to bring a pair of clippers I hang around my neck and a water tight container for my smokes. You know one of those you float on the river with. Also a skitterwalk, a few spooks, a pack of assorted plastics and a few lead heads.

No matter what I put in my wade box, I always do better when I take AquaPimp with me.

Very nice! I've always thought a spare rod & reel would be nice to have for a long wade.
