  • Increase in Liscence Fees

I took this from another dude's post on another forum, but its good info for those who don't already know.
This may have already been discussed on this board, but I thought I would point this out. Don't get me wrong--I'm not an accountant or an actuary or anything like it--so I have no way of doing the math on this--but consider--The current cost of a super combo is just to the easy side of $70.00. A lifetime equivalent of this license is an even thousand. Even if the cost never went up  ignoring the present value of money, a lifetime version would pay for itself in 14 years. A good friend of mine who is just about 45 had one given to him as a kid--he is rolling in high cotton for the rest of his un-natural life.

Even at the advanced age of 64, I had been playing with the idea of getting one of these for a long time, and finally pulled the trigger this year. I figure that when our President raises interest rates on home mortgages to 15 percent--like they were when Jimmy Carter was spreading the wealth, the cost of hunting and fishing in Texas is going way, way up. So I figure if I can keep from going belly-up like one of those dead drum you find floating in the shallow water for say, 10 years or so--I will come out way ahead. You simply show your lifetime card and an I.D. at any license-seller, and pick up your tags each year--as free as the second and third sham-wow.

One risk a lot of people think of when they are young is "What if I get a job out of state and am no longer a Texas Resident?" Well, that gives you the best deal of all--you can continue to fish and hunt in Texas just as though you were still a resident--for life.

A word to the wise...someday these may be like the Texas Tomorrow Fund for Colleges--you won't be able to buy them any more.

The biggest increase in license fees approved by the commission affects lifetime licenses. The resident lifetime fishing and hunting licenses will increase to $1,000 and the lifetime combination license increases to $1,800.

“We have not increased the cost of a lifetime license for 12 years,” said Gene McCarty, TPWD deputy director of administration. “Frankly, these licenses have been undervalued and could represent significant lost revenue over time if not adjusted.”
I'm pretty sure I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a lifetime hunting-fishing combo. Even if I end up moving out of state to find work, my folks will probably still be here, and I'll skip out on paying $300 for out of state hunting-fishing.

the $1000 is for hunting/fishing combo.

if you get only hunting or only fishing they are $600 each.

thanks milkjug for the heads up. I was unaware of this. I may have to make a little investment
