  • Services for Glen Mueck, Blockade Runners honcho.

Just wanted to pass this on to everyone that met Glen out at the camp. His sons asked that anyone who can make it, please come. They said it would particularly mean a lot to Glen's mother to see as many people as possible there. Services will be in Lake Jackson on Tuesday, June 23rd at 9am. I know many of you won't be able to make it, but it would mean a lot to his family if you could come.

I spent a long time with them this afternoon and Glen was always talking about all the people he met out at the camp. I know he wasn't a member here because he was not on-line, but I like to feel that since he met so many members here, he was an honorary West Ender. Thanks, Sandy

Sandy, I'll see what I can do but most likely won't be able to take off to go. My prayers will be there for him and his family even if I'm not.

Just wanted to bring this to the top. The service for Glen will be tomorrow, Tuesday June 23rd, at 9am. If you can make it, please do so. The place is Restwood Funeral Home, just off Dixie Drive in Lake Jackson.

Here are directions from the north. Take hwy 288 South to Lake Jackson. Make a left on Dixie Drive. Restwood is on the left, not far after Plantation Drive. Thank You, Sandy

              Glen

I know it will be tough for the workin' folks to make it. Sure was cool of Coe to put Glen up on the front page. Thank you Coe. Glen would act silly every once in a while, usually when he was happy that we had finished a project. If I remember correctly, this was when we had finished the front porch. He pulled a Captain Morgan for the photo and turned his hat sideways just to be silly. Most people didn't see that side of him. Here's another one of him being a little silly. - Sandy

The service was short, but very sweet. TMO got there before I did and was able to tell me that my directions from Yahoo Maps were not correct. That's the 3rd time I've been turned the wrong direction by Yahoo. Due to poor directions I made it there with only 2 minutes to spare. But I digress.

As I walked up, Tom was waiting for me at the front door. When we walked in, I saw all the pictures they had laid out. Most of them were from the lense of my old camera. I've mentioned before that Glen was a bit camera shy. He would usually argue when I said I was going to take a picture of him, then I'd do it anyway. I'm just glad I was able to catch him those few times, and I'm so very glad that they turned out so well that the family could use them.

The preacher prepared a wonderful eulogy. Listening to it, I realized that although I only knew Glen for 2 years, I had gotten to know him very well. Blockade Runners was mentioned by name as a place where Glen most enjoyed being.

What struck me most is the amount of people there. Glen touched so many people during his life, that even on a work day, during business hours when so many probably could not get away, the place was full and the parking lot was overflowing. A not too small testament to his character and the way he lived. I'll personally always be thankful to him for allowing me into Blockade Runners. I think he knew just how much I needed the place in my life, and seeing that, he could not turn me down. Everyone had a story about how he helped them at some time or another. I often say that the meaning of life is to help people and make the world a better place for others. Glen's life seems to have been all about doing exactly that.

When the service was over Tom and I made our way to the receiving line and I was able to introduce him to Glen's family. We've all been in those situations, where you want to put into words just how much someone meant to you, but you fail miserably. You want to spend time with them reminiscing, but there are other people behind you wanting to do the same. We found our way to the front door soon and said our goodbyes. After Tom left, I couldn't help but go back and look at the pictures, seeing Glen go from a boy to become the man I knew.

Rest in Peace fellow Blockade Runner. - Sandy

It was a very nice service, that's for sure.....He definitely touched quite a few peoples lives . Sandy, that picture I think is from the day Glen and I worked framing that back deck. I remember working with him following his instructions and like the pastor mentioned during the service, I felt like he was sizing me up....I hope I passed the test. I wish I had a more chances to be down there with him, it seems Blockade Runners is a place he cherished. Rest in Peace Glen.

I'm sorry too Sandy, but glad the service went well with a good turnout. If ever i learned something from Glen, it was the house jacks he built for under Blockade runner. I don't think he invented them, but that was the first time I've ever seen them used. If ever the need for them arise, I will pass them on as the "Glen Jack" in his honor.
Look for me Friday after a surf session, hopefully, to help with the destruction of GC.
