Grandparents coming

Need some of your expert advice!! My Grandparents are coming from Nevada in the middle of July and they love to fish. Grannie is trying to figure out to take her pole on the plane as hers is the only one that catches big fish!LOL Gotta love Grannie!

Anyway would like to take them to a semi walk in friendly place(not getting beat up in SURF and not getting killed by Mr Stinger).

I know thats a lot to ask and throw in actually catching something edible is a tall order. I will buy live bait if necessary.

Any ideas/recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I'm no expert but...The problem is Ike tore-up a lot of the drive up crowds fishing piers and there are, just simply at the moment, not many public places to go unless you are willing to get your feet a little wet or at least are willing to get some sand between your toes.
Maybe someone can fill in as to wether or not the Quintana "Paved top" jetty is open. That can be a outstanding, all around fishing place.

A few of the jettys off Galvestons sea wall are paved. Get there early and be fishing by first light with live shrimp under a popping cork. Fish hard till about 9:30a.

The San Leon Pier is open again but the last time I looked about 2 weeks ago, it was only half the original length. Because there are not many public piers left standing expect this pier to be very crowded on the weekend.
