  • Anyone else have this problem?

when I'm working a topwater it seems like 2 out of 3 casts my line gets tangled up with the front hook on the topwater and its been getting pretty anoyying. I normally just use #20 leader with a norton quicktwist. Any thoughts on what the problem maybe?

yes even with a loop knot.some people will tell you to take the trebles off and put singles. There are some tops that are worse than others.I would lose the norton quicktwist and tie a loop knot IMO.

a lot of it has to do with the twitch of the rod, the wind & how rough the water is. i have noticed if im popping the slack in my line to walk the dog in windy conditions i will get a wrap ... but if i twitch & give the slack back to the top it dont do it as often. i have also noticed it happens more fishing with braid & no leader than with a leader. i also think upgrading to a thicker leader will be a little stiffer & would reduce the hooks wrapping.... switching to singles help too.

It's not the leader, you have too much slack in the line. Reel more often. In working a topwater directly into the wind, especially if I'm having tip-wraps, I work it sideways with the rod parallel with the water instead of up and down.

Throw shrimp under a cork while sitting in da boot and drinking bier. I rarely get line wrap unless I have too many biers!

I was gonna say reel more!

Every 3 or 4 casts just stop, and hold your rod tip up. Let your topwater spin until it stops. Removing the twist reduces the line wrap on your hooks. Thanks Flapper!

12lb mono tied directly to the plug via loop knot and keep the loop small
