  • Topwater Trout: Slurp or Blowup?

How would you rather have a trout hit your top? On one side, there's nothing like a spectacular blowup with the fish coming out of the water, doing back flips, or slashing it fast to get your heart going. On the other hand, I get a lot better hook-up rate when they take their time and get right on the plug and suck it down.

I agree 100% but nothing gets my heart pumping more than seeing my TopWater thrown into the air to be inhaled as soon as it gets intercepted again

I love the huge havoc reaking blow up, but have to agree that I hook up more often when they suck it under.

I have not caught one either way, so I really do not care, I just want one to get on my line!

Keep throwin' it and it will happen!
Try different retrieves, speeds and sizes until you find the right one.

I love the BIG blow up and will take that over the slurp anyday, even though the bigger trout tend to slurp more that the little ones.

id have to say blow up, especially when they dont get hooked the first time and seeing them come back for seconds and thirds... cant beat it

Yep! Give me the slurp and lunge of a big trout any day.
I have had a big trout tail walk all the way around the boat before. Now that was impressive.

I don't care either way but just take that plug! Had trout slurp, blow-up and suck it under and like mentioned, tailwalk trying to get loose. What a blast.

I'm with explorer21 on this one, I want to but live bait is the only thing I have caught and filetted em on so far.

I prefer a blowup but my bigger fish have slurped it.nothing beats catching them on tops anyway.

I'll take the slurp...a lot of times it will either be a bigger fish or the fish that hit it will have the hooks in him better than just your typical blowup.

Not sure if trout will do it, but bass will sometimes see the bait coming down from a cast and as soon as it hits the water the bait just keeps going down because it has already been grabbed....it never pops up!

                            Blow up is my vote!
