    Sunday

Well it all started out with the wife planning a "Couples Shower" for last Saturday... The definition for a "Couples Shower" is : a meeting of the minds to keep men from being men, make them watch the kids, and keep them from hunting and fishing! So the resident pot licker and I were at the house hanging out with the kids. My cousin ( Resident Potlicker's wife) comes out and asks if we are going to church on sunday. ( The Bell dinged) Sure we both said, the ladies were happy. Later on in the day we informed them that Church this week would be held in Chocolate Bay. ( Thats how I god this lump on my forhead).

    On to the trip:

I wake up on the couch @ 4:15A.M. get dressed load the truck. Go to Resident Potlicker's House. Hook up to the boat, find that my Trl. light adapter is missing and he cant find his. But hay who needs trailer lights. Make it to the ramp @ 5:30A.M. and some guy is swiming for his keys in the middle of it. Get the boat on the water @ 6. First spot nothing. Same thing for the next, and the one after. By 9:30 we decide to go to the "Hole" pull up drop the anchor. Re-Rig the BillyStix Spiral ( Maden Voyage) cast out lure, fish on. We ended up landing 27x Reds in an Hour and a Half most 17-20 inches, 5 on the stringer 23-271/2. Best day of fishing this year and I'm oficilly Hooked on the Stix.

The plan was that Flat Out Fishing, Bountyhunter, MBW007 and I would meet at Sam’s beach at 0600 for some surf action. The water was sandy but green water was almost in reach and the predicted 5 to 10 north wind was actually a 15 from the north east. Monte was the first to hook up with a nice 21 speck that went on the stringer. I was the next with a dink then Derek and Mike released a couple back to the surf. The north east wind increased to 20 and we decided to make a move. Derek had to get home so we were now down to three people.
Next we decided to wade the bay behind the pass, well Monte and I decided anyways. Anyone that knows Mike knows that he doesn’t get out of the boat in the bay except to push it off of sand bars or when he falls out. Monte and I took off and about the time that Monte figured out that it was a bust we turned around and saw that Mike was indeed following us about 100 yards back. We walked him for a couple of miles then headed back.
Next we decided to drive back to the seawall and see if the water cleared up back towards Galveston. We stopped again around 8 mile road and hit it again. The only stand out moment that stands out here is that I saw a raft of mullet balled up real tight and when I threw at it something exploded and it was on for a minute or two. I am somewhat sure that it was a jack cravelle. We did string fish but it was a slow grind.
We packed and headed east again and stopped for some working birds at 89th street. Mike starts off hammering them and has the hot hand for this stop. Mike thinks that one that he lost would have been a personal best and seeing his rod I would have to concur. Monte hooks a nice trout and as I am looking over he shouts that there are 3 or 4 more chasing her. He says that it is one of the coolest things he has seen. Monte also lands a 25 inch trout that went 5.5lbs. Seeing that she wasn’t going to make it, she went on the stringer.
Next we stopped a little further east where green water was within reach and it was on again. This was our best stop and we hooked up, double hooked up and triple hooked up several times. We were so hooked up that we attracted a boatload of potlickers from the jetties who came and anchored up on us.
We kept one limit of trout between the three of us for dinner to remember a great day of catching with good friends.

Billy, I'm over at the Kennedy Space Center, not sure how close that is to Daytona. It's about 40 miles east of Orlando.

Ok here is a true one,

During the Memorial Day weekend 007 and I teamed up to see if we could put a hurting on these boys here in a little money tourney. Well about 2:30 that Friday afternoon as the hot Texas sun burned into our skins I made a cast with my Billy Stix Sprial and a few bumps of my Bass Assassin I felt the lightest of "Tics" but knew it was a fish. It didn't take long to realize this wasn't just any fish but a big fat beautiful Speckled Trout. She was hardheaded but had little choice in the matter as that Sprial Stix worked it's magic on her during the 15 minute fight. Even though at the time it seemed much, much longer. However as with all the other big fish I've caught on my Sprial, she soon came to the net and ole 007 did his job. My new personal best trout was in the boat and the rest of the West End Anglers had to play catch up in our little tourney. By the way, all of us that placed donated our winning back to to WEA to help keep this great site up and run. My hats off to you Billy my friend, you build one awesome fishing STIX!

Billy, I just happen to be in the your home state this week. I'd really like to shake your hand and maybe buy you a beer. How far is it to your neck of the woods from Cocoa Beach?

    Derek (AKA Bounty Hunter)

The gurgling sounds and subsequent aroma was all I needed to insure myself that Jeff wouldn’t be dressing me down as a “no show” today. Fired up the computer while the coffee was brewing but just really couldn’t get into it. I’ll catch up in a bit. I had pretty much packed my stuff yesterday afternoon and Cassaundra (bless her heart) had set a brand new 25’ stringer by my keyboard after I went to bed. Gotta love that! It didn’t take long for me to secure a cup of coffee, give the place one more brief inspection to make sure I had everything and I was out the door. The plan was to meet Jeff in Tiki and ride to the “other” island in his truck. We made short work of loading my gear in his truck and were fixin' to be off to the races when the Tiki police paid us a little visit. Jeff told ‘em sumpin to the effect of having seen the ex mayor poaching other peoples canal lights on the way in and off they went. Still don’t know what was up wit dat LOL. Ole Mastercylinder showed up and followed us to that “other” island and the search for live croaker was on. (Yes, I run with a bunch of potlickers) They got their croaker and we soon found ourselves on final approach to a beach I haven’t fished in years. It was breezy when we arrived and the water looked to be just a little shy of being Yoo Hoo. To add insult to injury, the weekend warriors started stacking up behind us and it began to look like we had missed our window of opportunity to wrestle with some pigs in the surf. Bruce split for places unknown and the big boys decided to go have a look at Sam’s Beach. That turned out to be a good call. Still a tad breezy but the water looked real fishy and green. It didn’t take long for ole Boom to bring a nice fat shouldered sow to hand on live bait. I threw tops, tails and spoons with few if any results at first. The other fella we were fishing with started slamming ‘em on those little holographic swim baits (green) and I soon followed suit. It was “ON” then! What a blast that was. We found ‘em in the gut between the first and second bars. Had to stay pretty much tittie deep on the outside of the second bar to keep from getting smashed by some of those waves. Despite that, the water remained clear and after sunrise you could actually see your feet while standing in hip deep water. The swim bait changed my luck and I began stringing fish when I wasn’t replacing gear that got cut or broke off. Jeff left for a while to get some ice for the fish and we kept chunkin’. That’s when IT happened. I got a solid bite and proceeded to set the hook “HARD”! Unfortunately whatever I set that hook on was a heckuva lot tougher than me. It didn’t budge at first and when it did, my brand new Billystix “Nightstick” was jerked out of my hands and into the surf! BTW, I CAN still dive when needed LOL. It took me what seemed like an eternity to recover that rod and when I did, the fish was still “on”,……………………………briefly. Oh well, at least I still have my rod and reel. The guy next to me was laughing so hard I thought he was gonna drop his rig too. The current was ripping down the shoreline and several times I looked back at our vehicles only to realize we had drifted off station quite a bit. It was during one of my treks back up current when I walked behind Jeff to get back in “my spot”. I made it about 25’ past him when he announced that we were right in the middle of the school. “I can smell ‘em,” he tells me. It was about that time that one of the fish on my stringer tail slapped him on the cheek. Yeah Bro, those fish are closer than ya think LOL! Gotta love fishin’ with good friends! Long story, short…we caught a few, lost a few, and turned a few loose to fight again. The waves got bigger and we decided we just weren’t that mad at the trout anymore and headed home. As we left the “other” island we saw the touristas piling in. We were definitely headed in the right direction! Thanks for the invite Jeff. I really enjoyed fishin’ with y’all today. Hope EVERYBODY has a safe and happy holiday weekend. Tight lines, Guy
PS i was the other guy he put the Bill Dance on that trout and the rod went flyinhahahaha

Oh hey by the way what/s up with the rod in your banner? The one with the chick in it. The first eye is set up for a baitcaster and the rest of the eyes are set up for a spinning reel?

Billystix makes spiralstix rods. The eyes spiral on the rod blank like you noticed.

This eliminates the torque of the reel in your hand and doesn't try and twist in your hand.

Also it increases sensitivity and for us casting distance.

Billy makes awesome rods. They're very sensitive, you can feel ridges in the sand while pulling a lure across the bottom.

I was out this past week with IMHAMMER(Chip) in West Bay. It was my first trip out with him since I got my stix. He forgot to unstrap the back of the boat when we launched(tried to launch). A ton of water came in the back of the boat. We got most of it out when we pulled the plug, but we were in a hurry to get out so we did not let it all drain out. We fished for a while with the water in the bottom. We were making a long run so I decided I would go to the back and scoop it out. He stopped paying attention to where we were going, and we ran aground in the ship channel!! Had to pole out way off the bank and continue down the channel. true story. I will take a Medium!!
If I remember correctly, you were sitting in the boat when I backed it down and watched it go under without noticing it was still strapped down.
We were in a hurry to get in the water because there were birds working about 100 yds from the ramp and it took a long time after having to pull it back out and drain the water back out.
Again....My copilot was not paying attention!
