Omega Bay questions?

Y'all:

My wife and I have been looking at houses in Omega Bay and we are very close to pulling the trigger on a home there to be our full time residence. My question is there anything I need to know before making the plunge? Things like: avoid such and such street because the canal goes dry at low tide, watch out for x street because the neighbors have a pet lion. I'm looking for general stuff here that should be avoided.

One other thing for those of you that live in that neighborhood; is the traffic noise ever a problem?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Dunno... Omega was one of the harder hit bayfront subdivisions after Ike, most of the rest of Galv. did not have houses completely gone. Probably due to it being on the N. side of Offat's.

I lived in Bayou Vista for a few years and loved it. The only trouble I had was during the winter it was sometimes hard to get the boat out of the sling due to way low tides. I usually kept my boat on the trailer during the winter months so I wouldnt half to worry about it. I have hear that the Omega Bay Canals were alot shallower the the canals in Bayou Vista but dont know exactly how true that is.

Hey the canals in Omega are only 4 - 5 foot and stink in the summer months the canals in BV are 12 - 14 foot and the dock fishing
is 100 % better I live in BV and have freinds that live there. Also the east front homes are the only way to go you dont get that afternoon sun.

Buy a house with the rear deck/canal to the east, no evening sun plus you will get prevailing winds. Road noise will come from HWY 6 with prevailing wind and from I45 with north wind in Omega. In winter if you can't get your boat out the canal you sure won't get across Jones, my canal is 5 ft deep and there are a few days a year there is only mud under the boat where its not as deep. Regardless of BV or Omega you will have to deal with the RR bridge and Jones. I've lived in OBV 10 years and love it.
