Shimano Calcutta (CT200GTB) Question

Posting this on multiple sites to cover my bases, sorry if you've seen it on one of those "other" fishing forums:

Gents,

Bought this reel new a little over a year ago and have been extremely pleased with it; however, I've noticed recently that after a particularly good fight (or on some days a lot of casting) the side plate screws seem to come loose. I've read reviews from people who say they've had the same issue (with other Calcutta models also) so I was wondering if any of you have run into this issue?

If so, have you found anything to fix it? It doesn't matter how tight I screw them back in, they come loose after a bit of action. My worry is that I'll end up losing one of the screws, or worse that it is jeopardizing the internals since the housing won't be as tight as it should be. I spent too much money on this thing to have it crap out early due to a faulty design on Shimano's part. Also, before anyone asks - I always give my gear a good rinse when I get back to the dock/house - so I'm taking care of it, just worried that it might be getting more exposure than normal because of the screws coming loose.

Any advice you can provide is appreciated.

Side plate screws?

Are you refering to the ones your can tigh-en by hand ... or the ones ou need a screw driver?

You might have oil in them .... clean with alchol .... put a dab of drag greese to keep them from freezing up ...see if it helps

yea, there are two that are the same size on the top/bottom of the side of the reel, you can see one of them in this picture:

You can tighten by hand or with a screwdriver.

I'll give your suggestion a shot.

Yep ... mine do it from time to time ....

Try to get the oil out of them .... some will say to use something like lokt-tite .... and you can use this but use very little of it ... and I mean a tiny bit ... either way you need the get all the oil out of it ....

I agree with Muddskipper-I have not put locktite on them, I just know they do that (just like some old Ambassadeurs), so I check them now and then. On my 400's, the screw doesn't fall out (at least not yet).

Clear finger nail polish will work.

I just use an impact wrench on mine. LOL

The thumbs screws on my Calcutta 250 used to back out, now I just give them a little extra tightening with a screwdriver.
