  • Drifting and popping

I have never tried it, has anyone had luck using a poppin cork with plastics or live shrinp while drifting. My dad is not a caster, more of a soaker so I thought why not. Now all I need to do is find someplace to drift. Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

I'd get in the bay(West, Christmas,or your choice) and let your Dad let out line to get the bait away from the boat on the drift while you fish the water in front. Eliminate water=find fish. I love to drift fish. Gotta get me another boat, I think the surf is fixing to rough up again.

Popping corks + drifting= fun. I've done it many times and gotten good fish. Give it a shot.

the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Yes sir it works - and sometimes when the sun is intense it's the only was to turn on the fish. Live, dead, plastic, Gulp - it all works. Makes me want to break out the old Mansfield Mauler!

Drifting with popping corks is deadly. Here in Matagorda the drifters have had as good if not better boxes than waders. If you are going to throw a popping cork then go with Midcoast Products corks. They are top of the line in quality and performance

Look at my Calcasieu post. All fish were caught drifting and popping live shrimp. I couldn't get a fish to take a lure that day.

Right now, anything that bites is what I am fishing for.

I think on Saturday I will set dad up with a poppin cork and live shrimp on some drifts. I will be throwing everything else including the white and copper penny 3 & 4 inch gulps I have. Do y'all tie the leader to the bottom swivel of the cork or to the top swivel. I have seen it both ways but never tried the top.

Do your self a favor at pick up some Midcoast Product corks. You won't have to worry about anything. Once you fish them you won't fish any others any more. I like the evolution and nexus 4. Also when using gulp shrimp I would go with the 3in. I
