  • Cozumel Trip 4-26-12

I had the pleasure of going to one of my favorite places in the world last week and that would be Cozumel. Over the last few years I have been quite a few times and had the pleasure of meeting some great people I am happy to call friends. While I was there I did plenty of 12 oz. curls along with quite a bit of snorkeling around near shore reefs.
I managed to sneak out one afternoon for a fishing trip I will NEVER forget. I met my buddy at the marina to check out his new panga style boat and was impressed. He has installed a t-top along with outriggers since the last time I had been down.

My buddy (Ponchito) getting things rigged up

We proceeded to leave Cozumel and head for the mainland (Playa), which is a 14 mile trip. The seas were 3-5 so it was a little rough but not all that bad.

You can see the wave behind my beer. It was pretty sloppy in a 26’ boat.

We proceeded to troll for almost 4 hours with not even one knock down. Just as we were about to head back to Cozumel my buddy yelled “pajaro” and we diverted our troll to head towards the bird hovering above the water. As soon as we were directly under the bird one of the penns started screaming. I nearly hurdled the console in excitement and the battle was on. We initially thought we had a small Marlin but after a jump we saw the distinct yellow color of a Mahi. After a 20 minute fight the fish was in the cooler. Whoo Hoo!!! This is my largest Mahi to date.

My buddies cleaned the fish and sent me back to the hotel with 2 HUGE bags of fillets. I called my my friends back at the hotel to let them know that we would be having fresh fish for dinner tonight. The chef at the hotel cooked the fish along with rice and veggies that fed 7 HUNGRY people! Everyone enjoyed it and some of them don’t particularly care for fish.

All in all it was another fantastic trip with great friends. I included a few additional pics below. Tight lines!

    Cool report and great pics!!

I like it down there-I used to hit Akumal often years ago-started going down there in the 80's-everything has changed a lot-grown like crazy. Lobster season is closed right now aint it?
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

Thank you, sir. I'm honestly not sure about lobster season. My buddy did tell me that we could dive for them next time I was down.

Blue water, white sand, cold beer, a fish or two. Life just doesn't get any better.

Like I said on 2Cool, the Presidente is The Bomb! One of my all-time favorite destinations. The flag system on the beach is awesome. We called the waiter we had the last few years "Thank You, Thank You"... that is what he said every time he waited on us. LOL Y'all did it up right!
