Trout in the surf

Waded East of the Pass down by the dune walkovers...you could smell them and the water wasn't bad at all. Bait was busting up good too...threw the old 52MR clown and no takers, but I know something had to be there. Also saw a huge, I mean...HUGE school of jacks busting bait on the third gut @ 91st and Seawall just West of the Gulfcoast Pier...it won't be long now. Usually they'll show up at MOB, Surfside, or Gorda before GTown...thinking I might hit there next Sunday if conditions are right.

Threw a Clown Super Spook for a while Saturday morning, but no trout. They should be here soon though. The water was pretty warm already and there was mullet all around. Lots of pelicans diving in areas too. The shrimpers working in close is a good sign too.

It may not be a fact, but in my experience, early spring trout seem to like subsurface lures better than tops. I usually throw mirrolures, but long A's willl sure work, they just wear me out

I don't shoot cats (except at a ranch-they are feral and eat quail eggs and chicks), I am almost like PETA-I help give cats away-sleeping ones that is.

My posts on surf are fairly accurate. I did miss the close in shrimpers as another sign-and no, I do not move for porpoises-they are eating trout/bait, so although they scare the school, the schools move back and forth along the beachfront, so another school will be by shortly.

Some of my better days have been just wading in any where, but when it gets slow...I'll drive the beach until I see something that looks different... large pods of bait/mullet, nervous bait, color changes or break in surf indicating a pass between guts, or I see kennys truck...then I pull in right on top of him!

Damn Mr. Robalo, sounds like you know a little about the subject. As a socialist democrat I don't agree with your politics but your surf fishing synopsis is right on the money. Do you move on to another spot or keep fishing when the porpoises show up?

You just had to go there huh? If Jerry would have known that He probably would have told You different strategies, like make sure You have a short stinger, no life vest, and bleed yor catch before You string them.....just sayin'
