Trout in the surf

Can someone tell me what the variables for trout to show up on the beachfront are? Interested in learning from you surf fisherman what keys are in play to catch a few on some lures. I'm wondering how water temp, moon phase, etc. plays a role on kicking off some action. Got some cousins coming over from Covington-North Shore area that put me all over trouts and red drum at the rig o lets last year and it's time to pay them back. All expert and novice opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Should be on any time now -- Water temps 72 and up and calm days are what I'm looking for to start trying it out. Tie on a big clown spook and go to town.

Thanks Ibtsoom, sounds like sound advice. I prefer submersible baits but got a few tops. Gonna give them a try.

When water is around 75 degrees it starts-need green water, so light wind or north wind-start casting as you wade out-fish are sometimes (especially reds) in the first gut, then work way to second bar, casting in sweeps at 9 oclock to 3 oclock. Key on mullet and watch for jellies. Live shrimp, croakers, tops, rat-l-traps, silver spoons, mirrorlures and plastics all work. Timing is key-usually it is a morning/evening bite, but can be 10 am. Current movement helps. As with anyplace, give room to others and don't crowd others. If ya go to 3rd bar, plan on swimming and be darn careful-current and no touch of bottom can be dangerous as heck-add your rod, bait, and tennis shoes and can be struggling easily. Do not wade near passes-that sand washes away and so do you. Life vests are a good idea. Long stringers with quick release is necessary in case Grey Suit wants your fish. Seen em take trout while reaching to grab fish.

As a Socialist Democrat, you should start hoarding guns and ammo to protect yourself against the NBPP, Obama, Reid and Pelousy-that way you can take back the USSR or USA (either one works nowadays) and return it to the former power it once was-and restart the Cold War-the Economy booms during wartimes. I miss the Berlin Wall. I would prefer a war in Europe over Afghanistan/Iran/Iraq-those folks don't bathe at all and their food suxs-goats-yuck. I'll take a nice Pheasant or Cuchon du Lait from France anyday over some stinky goat meat. Just Nuke the Middle East and be done with it. Finish them off and we won't have to depend on Middle East Oil-it'll be glowing too much-then let's see how Obama aids the US Oil & Gas Industry! Bet he'd hug ExxonMobil's CEO and no telling what his lovely wifey would do to the CEO!!

Sunday the water was 73.4 degrees as my transducer(Freeport). Wasted about 2 hours, and no trout, but we did catch some very nice flounder 18 to 23 inches

I supplied Whiskerville more meat than Pamela Anderson could handle in a week (and she can handle a lot of "meat"), yet those dang cats still starved.

I like cats-when I see one "sleeping" on the side of the road, I like to stop and put a "FREE KITTEN" sign next to them-of course with an arrow pointing at the "sleeping" cat. Many times, that cat stays sleeping there for a week or more-gee, you'd think someone from PETA would adopt it or some crazy cat lady.

75 degrees is the start-ya know-the temp that your "danglies" don't end up in your lower abdomen trying to stay warm. 78-80 is the peak and bestest time to hit the surf-spannys, pomps, reds, trout and grey suits and if really lucky, a slimer (King) or a ling.

the spanish and jacks are already here. it wont be long before the trout show up,already some out there im sure. pretty much anything will work when the bite is on.try tops early and then switch to plastics later on. i find incoming high tide is the best and right before a full moon. but any calm day can be a winner! live shrimp will be the best live bait when they show up until june,then i would use mullet.

Yeppir, look how friendly and passive that lil' kitty cat looks-I'm surprised it's still sleeping there-I guess that's where the saying "Cat Nap" came from-how cool.

I figured some Cat Lady would adopt it by now. Geez, why can't folks take advantage of "Free Offers"?

I like the "sleepers" that end up with highway striping !! Makes a plain black cat look neat when it has a white highway stripe across it-kinda like a 1969 Camaro SS.
