I wanted to start a new thread here, just for us to celebrate the life of our friend, Victor Martinez. I'd like to ask all of you to use this thread to post any pictures you have of Vic and also relate your stories about him. Seeing he pics 2112 posted gave me the idea. I'd like to be able to share everyone's remembrances with Vic's family. No matter the length of the story, please know that it will be treasured. I'll begin with how I met Vic some 7 years ago.
I got home from school after a particularly hard day trying to keep some kids on the straight and narrow. I got on 2cool, which I had just recently discovered and I clicked on a story about fishing the Cold Pass area. When I got finished with the story, I reflected upon it and said to myself, "I think I would get along with this guy. I think he feels exactly the way I do about fishing." As I scrolled back up the page, I was excited to see that he lived in Angleton too. Yet another reason for all of you to post your location for others to see. You never know who you might become friends with, they could live right down the street. Here is a link to the post on 2cool : http://2coolfishing.com/ttmbforum/sh...ad.php?t=50082
Being new to the internet, I wasn't sure how weird it would be to contact someone and say, "Hey, I read your story and I really think we should go fishing together." I finally decided to send him a PM. He didn't think it was weird at all to want to go fishin' with someone you had never met before. Not long after, we planned a trip to the SLP area, but bad weather blew in. He suggested that since I was completely new to the area, that we take a ride around and he could show me all the places to launch a boat. He took me to every ramp from Lutes down to the Brazos and all the way down to SLP. We had great conversations the whole way. Not long after, we started fishing together on a pretty regular basis.
I couldn't have known it that first time I contacted him, that he would become my best friend, and even more than that, a father to me. With my own family so far away, it was wonderful that he and his wife Lynne took me in and treated me as if I was their own son. There is so much more to tell, and there are so many stories swimmig in my head. I'd sure like to hear some from y'all though, and I know Lynne and the family will treasure them as I will. Don't worry if you've posted the pics or the stories before. We'd love to see and hear them again. - Sandy
