  • Creek gator

I went out to one of the local creeks around my parents lake house to do some bass fishing and when I was getting ready to pull anchor I see a ten foot gator starring me down.

I new that sharks like yellow kayaks turns out gators do too.

They are pretty cool to watch, I'd kind of drift towards it when I was working the shore line and she just would sink to her eye and nostril line and when I paddled away she would suck in some air and float back up to the top.

I fish chocolate Bayou at night and I had one almost come into the kayak for my trout last year. He was about 9ft long and he followed me around for a couple hours before I said to hell with this. He came within 5 yards of the yak a few times but he seemed like he was working up the nerve to come on in but was unsure of me. I didn't realize you could look into a gators eyes and see the wheels turning and his thoughts like a human but I could tell what he was thinking the whole time! Makes you not want to ride side saddle in that yak anymore!

Cameron and I were fishing some back creeks and marshes when we came across a dead end cove. We were looking for reds and didn't find any. We turned around and there, sitting in the water was a big gator. This cove, there was only one way in and out, and the gator started swimming slowly towards us and almost cutting off our only way out. Luckily we high tailed it out before the gator cut us off.

No! I tried to move around and away from him and keep catching but he wanted the stringer that I had pulled into the yak with me. He got close enough to see the tails and he heard them flipping in the kayak and you could see the interest in his face! His head would come up and look over at me and then the tails and then me, etc. I talked to a game warden about it and he told me that the gator could smell those fish in the kayak as well and to move away next time haha! I don't fish those lights in a kayak as much anymore. Yeah this thing stayed within 10 yards of me and swam around the kayak for about an hour. I wouldn't reel any fish in while he was close and when he'd hear splashing, he come back and follow me around. Bad situation but I wasn't worried until I had time to think about it on the drive home. I fished a small runoff in chocolate in the daytime and thought reds were blowing up bait only to have two small gators come up on each side of the kayak one day! It was the gators eating the mullet not reds! I fish the west end alot more these days in the kayak!!

Gators dont bother me....until its mating season! Ive had way to man close calls with territorial gators around that time of year. If I see one I high tail it outta there!
