....curious as to why Texas Highway Patrol needs this boat? Coast Guard and Homeland secuirty yes. But the highway patrol?????

I askes this very question to them. They said the 6 of these $500K boats were in response to the Lake Falcon incendent where he couple were jet sking and the guy got whacked out on the lake.

My guess is Federal money is not there to protect us so, TEXAS will take care of their own back yard.

The Boats are mission based, but will do some minor patroling. They have 4 (2 on each side) 30mm automatics, and a 50mm is mounted in the front deck. It can draft 18" of water (thi is what they told me).

TxDOT has been trained by TPWD with game laws and can/ will be checking boats. Mainly for saftey gear, but they can check your catch. They can also have a Game Warden on thier boat at times, looking for violations.

They have a boundry of 12 miles offshore

All money for the vessels, came from drug confications, and not from Tax payers (this is what I was told)

I got a new radar detector for Xmas, so I'll know when to slow down when that Boat radars me on I-10, HWY 71 or HWY 59-I dint hold back-got the high dollar Escort!! That boat don't scare me-I'll know they are radarin' before they get my speed. I wonder which HyPo car they'll tow it with on I-10, 71 or 59? Bet they park near Schulenberg!! (I don't do I-45 north)
