If you looking for the must buy at the show, go find the Boomerang Fishing booth out of Florida. They have some pliers they are a must buy. These pliers cut braid, are made of anodized aluminum and are at a fraction of the cost of what else is on the market. They also sell a sun screen buff that cut down on your sun burn for another break in cost of what you see. If you fish offshore you will be pleased to see their trolling lure selection.
Done !
Nice pliers for the price. I have another pair from a different manufacture I bought years ago that cost 6-7 times as much and are worth about 10 times less, they suck at cutting braid.
Mudskipper thanks for the heads up on the pliers."Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after" ~ Henry David Thoreau

I was looking at buying a pair soon, but the Pro Braid pliers I bought today at show are really nice and $25.00 out the door for the small set."Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after" ~ Henry David Thoreau

I've known Greg Dennis for 15 years. Hunted in North and South Texas with him. He is a hell of an outdoorsman. He was with a metal company selling us tubing. He now is a full time artist. Ive seen a bunch of his work over the ears it is outstanding. He has recently purchased one of the largest collection for fish molds in the Gulf. He has fished Rockport for quite sometime. Give him an idea and he can make it happen. Just my two pesos. Stop by and visit with him. Im bet we will see him on the site soon.Bacon Bacon Bacon!!!

Tour Star Rods..look like a really good product! Guys working the booth were cool too! Might have to invest in one of those rods!
The technology involved in boats, rods, kayaks, and gear is truly incredible!

I took my 11yo son and went to the show last night. We had a good time. The artist/photographer from Seabrook had a good booth, she has a number of 1970s and 1980s photos of Kemah/Seabrook preAlicia that were fun to see. I miss all those fish houses, the real Jimmy Walker's, the Dutchman, Maribelle's, good stuff.
We did some 'first boat' shopping. I hadn't seen the Carolina Skiffs up close. Their semiV models (DLV and JVX) looked like a pretty versatile boat at a decent price point. Beamy, low draft, probably better ride than the sure enough flat bottom skiff. I looked at a number of the aluminum 18x60s. I liked the G3 the best. I also spent some time looking at the Gulf Coasts. Of course, junior spent his time on the 36' Grady White that costs more than my house - he thinks big, I like that.
I'm going back on Saturday with La Senora. I didn't see any Tran Sports - maybe I missed them. I'll also be picking up one of the Tour Star rods. I need a new casting rod to replace the one I smooshed in my kayak (long story) and they have a couple of great models that will work for me.
The $5 entry/$5 parking deal is on for today and tomorrow too. Saturday it's back to full price."Shut up and jerk your croaker" - James Fox
