Coach, I might come that way just to see the place. The wind is howling again this morning, so we might not fish today. Either way, we might just take a wet boat right and come your way.
VJER got called to work and Lurefisher did the blue bonnet thing with the kiddo, so it was just me until Glen showed this morning. As it always seem so happen when I am alone, I met some new people and had a great time.
When I pulled up to the launch on Saturday, I got everything loaded up and I was soon met by Robalo. We chatted for a while and he made a contribution to my "Pay the vet bill fund." Thanks man, it was good to meet you and I'm glad someone could use the British firecrackers.
After he left, I noticed some fellows at the launch having some motor trouble, so I walked up, introduced myself, and offered help. Turns out their fuel pump was out, but I noticed their boat and truck were full of lumber, so I asked, "Y'all have a place on Titlum-Tatlum?" They answered in the affirmative, so I suggested that I tow them out and back in when they needed me to. Wow were they happy. There they were with all this stuff and they were thinking they'd have to call it off after bringing all that stuff down.
So I loaded all the lumber that was in their truck into my boat and I pulled them out to their place. We exchanged phone numbers in case they needed a ride back and I headed on to the camp. I did some over due relaxing and finally decided to get to work. Having little luck with my first project, I screwed down the deck boards on the entire front porch. Some birds were hitting right in front of the dock, so I grabbed a rod and snagged a feisty 12 inch speck before they were gone. Then I remembered I was in Texas, not Louisiana, so I threw him back.
Around 6pm I realized I had enough food for the 3 people I had expected for dinner, so I jetted over to the other camp and asked those guys to dinner. They turned the tables on me and I ended up staying there for dinner and we just threw everything together into one big feast. Luckily I had gotten my lights fixed up on the boat and I made it home very late after a great evening with my new friends. I got to learn a lot of history of Titlum-Tatlum too. One of the fellows out there has had his place since 1963 and he had been going out there since the early 40s. He really had some great remembrances.
This morning I got up and made my huge breakfast potato dish. The skillet full of food would be enough for breakfast, lunch, and I just had it for dinner too. I picked up Glen at the dock at 9:30 and he told me it was his birthday. Well, I wasn't going to push him on his birthday. He didn't do much, but he was happy to watch me from the porch as I wrangled the escaping pilings and planks. The tide was so high today, everything beneath the camp started to swim away. Around 2pm I towed my new friends back to the launch amid profuse thanks. I was just happy that I was there to help those guys. And y'all wonder why I have a kicker motor.
When I returned, I cleared most of the north side of the camp of debris and loaded it into the boat. The garbage men are not going to be happy with me
Looks like iffy weather again this coming weekend, but I plan on being there. If anyone wants to join in, just lemme know. - Sandy
From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."
sorry i didnt make it out either... i got demolished friday night, woke up saturday with my eyebrow pierced twice and $300 in my wallet, had to make some calls to figure out what the hell happend.. my dad was sayin the wind was ridiculous down there this wkend..
How the heck can you get your eyebrows pierced, that has to hurt like a mofo! As for the wind, it was nice if you are just sitting on the deck have a few drinks, but not for fishing. The south shoreline was the only place you might be able to fish any action and that was slow as well.
