  • Crappie in Luces 1/3/11

I decided to change it up and headed to the lake today and troll in the kayak for some crappie. It was not disapointing. I launched from ponderosa and paddled towards the lake. I targeted 10-12 feet of water and any structure that I could find. I worked the shore line for about a mile in both directions trolling a 1/4oz jig head with a black/red/chart. on one rod and a black/red/yellow on the other rod.

I did really well in a couple places where there was a lot deep brush with the fish suspended over the top of it. I didn't have to tickle the brush today. I ended the day with 14 keepers to 14" all in all a good day on the water.

It's in Huffman near Crosby. Take 2100 to Huffman/Cleveland rd and take a left and you will run into the bayou.

There is nothing like getting on schools of crappie and white bass in late winter and early spring when on fresh water. The plus about crappie is they taste better then flounder but they are a lot of work to get as much meat.

I'll do crappie and catfish and that's about the extent of my freshwater fishing. I never understood bass fisherman. They are a weird group of people. lol.

Nice bunch of fish. I haven't fished Luces Bayou in about 6 years. I used to fish every spring for Crappie until I started salt water fishing. I may need to give it a try again. There is not much better fish to eat than a Crappie!!!
