Got a chance to cast and blast West Gorda Sat - Tues. Nothing epic although we did whack some stuff in and out of the air. Experianced all kinds of weather from shorts( even wet waded one day) to full blown wet/ cold gear....when the front line blew in it was wicked wet. What I wanted to share mostly was the last day of fishing....it was kinda slow and I was working an outside drop. I knew fish were there but couldnt draw a bite for squat. I threw tops, black and pearl corky fatboy and devil which had been my go to bait all week...on a pure thought of genius(yeah more like dumb struckness) I found a red circle snapper hook, tied it on, hooked on a redshad assasin and first cast a nice 22" red smashed it. Next cast...22" trout, and then 5 cast,5 fish. The way I rigged was with the barb of the hook coming out the split belly of the assasin. Then pulled the assasin up so you could barely see the hook. Coming out of the head you only saw the line...no eye or knot at all. It was virtualy snag free in the mix of grass a shell. I know rigging like this is nothing new...other than I think most don't use circles when rigging their soft plastics and opt for a 1/8 or 1/16 oz head....but I just thought Id share MY new found trick! Anyway...if something seems strange or not exactly the norm...give it a shot because you never know!
