went by academy today and they have the berkley big game 4700yd spool for $4.88. tried to find the green, but they only had the 12lb in clear. well i bought 2 of them and put them in the fridge to preserve them. they had 15lb, 30lb and some others. bought the last 2 12lbs. the academy is on edgebrook and 45 south. don't know if they have the same special at other academys. they are going to have the all star rods for $25 dollars on friday. i looked at the flyer on the internet, and looks like they might be open on thursday. i asked one of the salesmen, and he said they were going to be closed for thanksgiving. i'm going to call tomorrow and find out. hope this helps. Lord Bless.

I've never heard of putting line in the fridge to preserve it. That's pretty interesting.

Man, that's like a life time of line.. as long as you keep it in the ac and out of the sun it should be fine... but guess the fridge is ac'd and definitely out of the sun... lol. It doesn't take up your beer space?

The offshore guys buy line by the pound, not by the yard. A 1-pound spool is 3,000 yards of 16#, for example.

And keep your line dry, out of the sun, and in a cool area 50 to 80 degrees - you'll ruin it in your refrigerator.

i read a long time ago about keeping it in the fridge. it's dark and moist. been doing it for 15 plus years. only bought 1/4lb spools and they lasted over a year. thanks for the advice swell, i'll keep that in mine and try something else for the big spool.
EIGHT: the academy is on edgebrook and 45 south. right on the corner. bought a spool of 15lb for a worker. they still had about 4 of the 15lb, some 40lbs, and some 60lb. hope this helps.

Well you won't hurt the line in the fridge and the worst would be on the dashboard of your pickup truck or SUV!

But you can get good mono line in big rolls because it saves money and isn't wound in such small circles like the small 1/4 pound rolls. If you like and can get the 12-pound offshore kind, I'd use it inshore as well.

There are many new monofilament super-lines that aren't your daddy's old "mono." I like the limber kinds that aren't as prone to line memory, and still have a good casting ability. A lot of people went for the braided line fad but what I found was that after a few years, Power-Pro would corrode the reel seat pretty bad - I don't know why but mono doesn't do that.

Plus, with over 3,000 yard of line, what's a couple hundred?
