  • just nailed a fair amount of yellowfin

got off tower on the rig and decided to do some fishing. first cast and hadnt even begun to make the lure move and got a blowup on the plug. huge fish, ran far and broke off on the supply boat that was on the other side of the rig.

two casts later and im hooked up with another yellowfin, get him on the deck, scale is busted and stops at 65 lbs. big fish. pass the rod off to a friend, same thing. maxes the scale. i get it back and hook up but lose one or two and then get a monster bite. the fish takes me for a damn ride. i finally get it up and again it maxes the scale out. it was probably around 80 if i had to guess. all in all i think 6 fish hit the deck and all maxed that scale out. last night one of the company men caught one at 105.

that was my first tuna ever and i wish i could take pictures out on the decks. oh well, coming hoime with a ton of tuna haha

Man you're lucky. Most rig operators don't allow no fishing, and only the crewboat hands can do that off shift. What's next, ceegars, whiskey, and Hooter girls?

I don't blame the man ... if you get close to triple digits, those yella tuna can wear ya out serious quick, worse if they decide to sound deep on ya. I believe I'd need a grandma gear on the reel for catching more than one hog like that.
