  • Twenty seven and change trout and report

Went out with Jhua today and had some nice topwater action early until it shut off around 9 am. We were fishing drop offs with tops until a boat rolls up next to us upon seeing Jhua getting blow up after blow up on his TTF Flush. I could literally throw my spook into his boat.

Thank god they decided to leave after not catching anything with plastics while smoking cigs and drinkin man soda's lol...I told J we would fish the outer areas and drop offs away from boat traffic in search for some big girls. Well it wasn't long until we got just that.

Caught this trout on a super spook jimmy houston in calm conditions with decent water clarity. All retrieves were a medium to medium fast work with few 1 second pauses. We were keying in on active mullet jumping. He was CPR'd to fight another day within a minute so we quickly measured him ~27 something and change. We didn't have anything to weigh him on but he was pretty solid and fat. Need to get that boga!

I also had numerous blow-ups that were some of the best I have witnessed as it sounded like a gunshot going off on my spook. We caught numerous small trout and best of all we released everything today, including the 25" redfish that absolutely crushed it. Jhua fished the flush almost exclusively and I have to say it definitely hung today. It seemed to get more blowups where we fished in bone/chrome than any other color.

Anyways this will probably be my last report for a while as we are gonna start exploring new areas. Thought this might make for a decent read for you fellas bored at work.

I set my hook like I am fishing for tuna even if I am fishing for trout. Call me tuna Joe!

                To add to Uber's report.

We got to our spot relatively late. There was already a boat there and I was hoping they were on some fish. They were trolling down towards the shoreline away from where we wanted to start our drift. We cut off the motor and coast into where we want to go, 70-80 yards away from their boat and heading the opposite direction. I make 4 casts. First cast, nothing. Second and third I have nice blow-ups. The fourth, I hook up with an 18 inch speck. I remove the hook and released the fella back into the water. While wiping my hands, Uber says to me something like, "WTF are they doing?" I look up, the boat that was trolling the opposite direction is now 20 yards away from us. Now it's my turn to say "WTF." I don't mind people fishing the same locations but, they were too close. What they did next was even worse. All this time, Uber and I have been drifting away from them (slowly) and fan casting in front of us. They troll up and go through the spot we were casting to. Needless to say, I didn't have a blow-up for a while in that area. To announce my displeasure, I started casting in their direction. I had no intentions of hitting them, just a subtle sign that maybe they were too close. I had to hold the line back to make sure, my top water didn't hit their boat. I know all three of them on the other boat noticed this, and i'm pretty sure one of them made a comment about it and laughed. Uber and I trolled out of the immediate area and went 400 yds away from them. That's where Uber caught his nice speck, which salvaged the morning.

                TTF Flush

I fished with the TTF Flush, which is their version of the super spook. I think "Awesome" doesn't describe it well enough. Don't get me wrong, I love my spooks. The flush has a better rattle system and makes it louder than the spooks. Also, walking the dog is just as easy and I would even venture to say easier. In terms of sheer numbers, I probably outfished Uber today in terms of blow-ups and fish. The flushes can take a beating!

Nice catch there fellows. Way to keep yor cool and enjoy the day. When I run across them I will be sure to put in an extra word for you guys. LOL It just happens when you run across people that cant catch fish on their own. I mean at least come in behind you and follow your drift and then pull out and repeat. No reason a few boats cant work the fish while drifting.Just one of those things I geuss. We will never undestand!! Thanks for the report.

I like the flush but I think it's more of a confidence thing for me with the spooks. The flush definitely caught more fish and got more attention today but I still think that has to do with the smaller silhouette and the higher pitches rattles. I think an even bigger factor would be the action/bone-chrome color you were using and not so much the lure. It's as long as a super spook but it's only about half to 2/3 as wide so I kind of think it's like the she-dog (it's shorter but wider) in that it will just attract a ton of fish. I pretty much exclusively fished the bigger top waters today in search of bigger fish despite gulp trolling we did which was pretty funny. Just to clarify I'm not knocking the TTF flushes. I was extremely impressed with it but it's still only one trip. It easily could have been your action compared to mine or color and not so much the lure. Sometimes fish want a certain thing and I can say that today the bite on the bigger spook was slower than it usually is, but I kind of expected that as well being as it's very big and wide. In that particular area anything that's smaller than a spook will generate a lot of attention and strikes as at one point we were throwing she-pups because they like the smaller stuff a lot (if you're going for numbers). I think it'll definitely take quite a few trips in varying conditions to accurately compare the two.

On the way back in my trolling motor went out (I get a new one tomorrow) and we trolled gulps while barely idling the engine. We put on a gulp crab, a gulp shrimp and a gulp swimmin minnow and trolled all the way back to the boat dock. Last time I caught a keeper speck, sand trout and he lost a flounder lmao. We are trying to explore the super rig which will be like a million gulps trolled on a surf rod with 60 lb. test behind the boat half a mile long but thats still in the works lol. I have a feeling if we do that I'm gonna get really really drunk .
