Live bait is gonna be hard to outfish especially shrimp since if you look there are lots of shrimp in the area you are fishing in so they are matching the hatch perfectly.
Shoulda put the teriyaki bang sauce on your TK's behind their back and showed them what's up lol...been working great lately on plastics working on bottom because it allows them to hang on to it for longer and also leaves a scent trail through the water. I got outfished by a buddy who was using it (fathernson on forums) at about a 2 or 3 to 1 ratio with the same bait on - TK2's. If they are wanting live bait carry a bottle with you and match the hatch, it's made from real shrimp juices and it has adhesive on it to basically make it to where you're fishing live bait but with you imparting the action...I highly recommend it. You can buy it at FTU or Marburgers.
But to answer your question, haven't been outfished by a girl (yet...my gf won't go with me) but I have certainly been outfished by live bait in the surf during the summer months by the guys around me. Sometimes it's like that.
In the reds we've filleted we've found them stuffed with crabs and shrimp. In the trout we've filleted we found some decent sized skinny menhaden so your TK's should be working decently but I know the feelin all too well...some days there's really not much you can do.
But it'll make you feel a lot better than on average, people who use live shrimp will have to weed through a lot of dinks, but it's still action. Arties and tops especially will land you more quality fish on average IMO but there are always exceptions to that rule as well you never know. Anyways glad yall have fun gimme a call this week.
PS - This shrimp pro cure is the f***** BOMB on reds right now when jigging on bottom. They won't let go and it's been attracting fish and increasing the amount of time they hold onto the plastics. When they hit it they completely inhale it. Bring a good pair of pliers lol!!!I set my hook like I am fishing for tuna even if I am fishing for trout. Call me tuna Joe!

Good for her. If more men would just take the time to teach (not instruct) their wife, girlfriend or daughter to fish.

Yes and they are also luck boxes when it comes to gambling...women used to be the luckiest people on earth when it came to playing Texas Hold 'em although I have ran into some really skilled competitors but that's neither here nor there!!! No shame in getting out fished by a girl most people wouldn't post that so kudos. It's all about havin fun and it seems like you made it happen for them on this trip. Fishing offshore for big stuff like marlin taught me to be a team player, and we did it for the boat and not personal glory. You hang a trophy, we got your camera person, somebody to leader, gaff, or net the fish, and somebody to drive the boat. it takes 3 people. I guess fishing for dinks that don't make much sense, but we always are safety first and for having a good time. I don't care if an 80 year old grandma pulls in the biggest fish ... I want to be on the team.
And just like a team we pitch in to clean the boat and everything, pay for some gas if we burned a bunch. We'd figure out who wanted the fish meat and divvy it up. That's the hardest part, getting it all back to the house when you're tired and I never met a captain who would refuse the help. -sammie
