  • How to get rusted/corroded screws out of boat side throttle panel?

Was out on the water the other day when throttle and warm up switch got really loose and decided to stop working. It's supposed to move the cables in the back by the engine and it doesn't which tells me it's in this little side plate. I'm thinking a spring popped loose or something busted on the inside but can't get to it because the screws are rusted solid in there.

The boat had sat up since '09 before I got it so the screws are most likely in there solid. Got one with some elbow grease and the manual phillips head screw driver.

Tried spraying corrosion X on them and letting it sit for 15 mins...went back out with the phillips head manual screw driver and they still wouldn't pop.

Last resort will be heading to dawg's house tonight or tomorrow to see if he can help pop it off...

    Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Drill em out and retap? Geez, I hate when screws rust up so bad. You sure the cable aint snapped? May be easier to find another throttle and replace it and the cables??????? good luck and hope ya get em free.

Try a cordless impact drill or impact driver with the correct sized Philips head and use very easy breaking force if you have a variable speed trigger. It has to have the hammer function. Most construction guys have one laying around. Easy money.

So he got the control box off before he showed up, we took the throttle lever off, opened box & found broken bolt inside, used a left handed drill bit & the broken bolt unscrewed when drilling. He picked up a bolt & he is on his way home to put it together.
