  • Bass Fishing 3/8/09

The wind was howling yesterday, but it was the only day I could get out, so I decided to run to Sheldon Reservoir again for a little bass action. On the water about 4:30 and off at 8:00 with the wind still blowing about 25.
My coworkers husband got back from Iraq last week after a one year tour and was itching to get out on the water, so I took him with me. I wish the weather would have allowed us to hit the bay since he has never been saltwater fishing and I have been promising to take him.
We got on the water about 4:30 and threw everything in the box at them. I caught 3 on a rapala, spinnerbait and a buzzbait up to 1 1/2 lbs and then hooked up with a good one about 4 lbs that jumped way out of the water and laughed at me when he spit the hook. There was another boat out there and the guy "said" he caught and released a 6 lber, so at least I know there are some nice fish in the lake.
Mike had fun, but only got one blowup the entire day.

Good luck to anyone brave enough to get out in these winds! It looks better for the weekend, but I will be in San Antonio visiting Shamu with the littleuns.

Glad you got into them a little, even a bad day fishing is better than most other days. Thanks also for taking Mike with you, a big pat on the back to you!

I'm an ole Bass fisherman, but haven't done much since I move here from San Antonio some 20 years ago. Never fished Sheldon and heard it was pretty good from a yak, so I would mind hooking up and going with you one of these days if you don't mind.

Sounds like a good day. I was going to hit a few ponds here in Lubbock today but the wind was blowing 45mph sustained with gust to 60. I decided to play some bball instead lol.

The lake will be grown over by mid summer with vegetation, so you getta get out there soon. Can you fish weekday afternoons or mornings? I don't fish weekends, but would be glad to get you out with me. I don't have a yak, but you can join me in the 16' flatbottom. It's perfect for that lake.

Lots of gators, but they won't bother you.
I have fished lots of lakes with gators and have been in the water with them numerous times. They are more afraid of you than you are of them'

Yeah, Like thats possible. You ever seen a gator have to change his shorts after running into a fisherman?

I got every other Friday off, and can get off by 2PM most evenings so you say when and color me fishy.

To me, Fridays are a weekend, and Fridays are usually bad for me, but we really don't need to be on the water before 4:00 or so to catch the evening bite. I will let you know.
