Aweright Bro, I will! Look. I'm a good Christian and give my money to my Church and other well chosen charities wisely. I dang sure ain't givin my money to no "TV Evangelist".Like all of them, that guy and his wife that preach in the old Houston basketball forum are doin it for one reason....MONEY! If you think the money they collect is for God's use to help people in need....well I DON'T! Why do all those kinda preachers drive very expensive vehicles and live in palatial homes?!I was raised by an old Cowboy, therefore I am.

That's a touchy subject. On the contrary,I DO believe money they collect does go to people in need.I think your contradicting yourself here. You say your a good Christian and give money to your church, but on the other hand you have NO faith that money recieved in that church goes to help people in need. That makes no sense. Why do they drive those cars and live in those big homes?........It's because they are rich.A Christian bad mouthing another Christian?Easy mstrelecticman.I myself am also a Christian, and I also give to my church, but I think your going a little too far with what YOU think they do with money that is given to them.TDFT Certified Weighmaster

i prefer to think of any form of organized region as corrupt and study the religious text for my self and have faith in a higher power myself rather than listen to the words of a man with no credentials concerning the words of god. sorry if you hate me for this but its a free country and all.75% Saltwater 5% led 20 % soft plastic 99% Alcohol 500% Fish stories = the make up of an angler.

I don't hang around churches very much, not very religious but I am spiritual and I believe in Christ. What comes off as mainstream televangelist preachers these days is nothing but Mammon, money, avarice, and gold.
You can not serve both God and Mammon. —Matthew 6:19-21,24
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Matthew 19:23-2
Aye, there are many similar references in the Bible. But also, being what I think is close to the spirit of Jesus, I do not hold myself in judgement of other men and women. Who am I to judge some idiot who is selling the Lord and trading Cadillacs, diamonds and wives? I think Jesus predicted that many would turn out to be carpetbaggers, hucksters, and snake oil salesmen.
I'm not too sure Jesus said he's forgive us for all those kinds of sins though.
To be honest captain, I'd just steer clear of it like us watermen know how to do. It is nothing more than a shoal in the ground, a bad reef, a topic to be avoided. Hold your prayers and convictions close to your heart, and pay the idiot no mind.

Well said Goldspoon and Swells. I'm a Christian, and I care deeply about my beliefs, but organized religion has done nothing but let me down. I'm closer to God in this marsh than I ever will be in a building made by man filled with half-believers. I go to church for weddings and funerals. I think a lot of TV evangelists are frauds and they're in it for the money. Why do the Baptists meet twice a week when most others meet only on the Sabbath? An extra offering.
Seriously, I do not think that everyone is following the teachings of Jesus. It's that kind of garbage that chased me away. I'm nominally an Episcopalian because I find their services solemn enough, yet lacking pretention. If it was good enough for George Washington and Robert E. Lee, probably the greatest 2 Americans ever to live, it's good enough for me. But I have yet to be confirmed and I do not attend much as previously mentioned. I grew up a Catholic until my mother was informed that I couldn't take my First Communion because in the eyes of the Church I was a ******* (my parents had both been divorced before marrying). I went to a Lutheran, then a Baptist school. I've got few problems with the Lutherans, but I've never seen so much backwards 2 faced BS as I did in the Baptist Church. Their cowtowing to the Temperance Movement irks me greatly. What was Christ's first miracle? He turned water into WINE!!!!! I have a lot of beliefs I grew up with because of my family that don't jibe with any Christian church. I think Jesus was married to Mary Magdeline and I believe he had children. Because of that I've been branded a Heretic. I believe it's entirely possible that people of all religions can find the path to Heaven. Muslims, Jews, etc. Anyone who tells me they are all going to Hell because they don't believe in Jesus as their saviour . . . . well, I think they're idiots. Do churches do a LOT of good in this world? Absolutely, but a lot of EVIL has been done in the name of God and I won't suffer it. I think He is completely PIZZED about it. Pat Robertson's recent stupidity makes me ill. He's always been at the top of my list of religious idiots. I believe if you work hard to be a good man, follow the Golden Rule, try to leave this world a better place, and you try to attone for your sins . . . . . well, I think God will be pretty darn proud of you. Some say I'll end up in Hell for any bit of this. It's a chance I'll take. There's a lot more to say on the matter, but I don't want to drag anyone down with me.

I guess the word sensor got me for saying a word that means your parents were not married when you were conceived. Y'all will figure it out. Funny how the priest and nun had no problem saying it, but the word sensor gets it. Y'all might be happy to know that God changed his mind sometime in the 90's and I am no longer considered a Bastar D in the eyes of the Church. Thank goodness, I had such a complex over it. Not.

So I'll go to heaven because I accept Christ as my saviour, but billions of others won't because they believe in something else? To me this is something for God to judge, not us. According to this, Abraham, Noah, and Moses are now in Hell because they didn't believe in Jesus. They didn't even have a chance because he hadn't been born yet. Prove I'm wrong and I'll apologize.Last edited by coachlaw; September 17, 2011, 02:59 AM.From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. Not saying I am a fan of the motivational speaker and his wife, but he has brought many to Christ. I believe the money he takes into the church is used for the church. However, the money he has made off of his book sales are used for personal minus tithe. I don't have a problem with his personal spending. Anyone of us who published a book and profit off it would purchase a nice home, cars and a ton of fishing gear.2010 Eagle Nest Backlash challenge winner!!

Good points made by all. What got me steamed is what I opened the original thread about and Sandy made mention of. The latest mutterings from Robertson sayin it's ok to divorce your spouse cause they have alzheimers. That's just crazy IMO. BTW Sandy, I too was raised in the Baptist church and came up with the same conclusions you have long ago. "Send me that money!". Oh well, I've always known Robertson is a kook, he just got through provin it a little more...let's go fishin!I was raised by an old Cowboy, therefore I am.
